England's middle-order batter flexed their big-hitting muscles as Charlotte Dean's team became the first to post a 200-run total for the second time in a single T20 World Cup. England's top-scorer on the evening Sophia Dunkley rode her luck as Scotland dropped her thrice through the course of her 37-ball 57. The quartet of Alice Capsey (40 off 25), Heather Knight (25 off 19), Freya Kemp (39* off 16) and Danielle Gibson (30* off 11) made 200 a possibility. Scotland showed some promise in chase but fell short by 38 runs in the end.

Kirstie Gordon dismissed Amy Jones on the first ball of the game but Dunkley and Danni Wyatt-Hodge lit up the rest of the Powerplay. Dunkley of course, brought most of the pyrotechnics, hitting Karthryn Bryce for a six in the third over and then laying into Gabriella Fontella with a flurry of fours. She hit three fours off Katherine Fraser too in the sixth over, taking England to 51/1 in 6 overs. Of that, Wyatt-Hodge scored just seven while Dunkley got to 43 off 25. Scotland's discipline on the field that was in full display against West Indies wavered, as they dropped Dunkley thrice as she helped herself to a half-century. Gordon struck again to remove Wyatt-Hodge, but that only brought Dunkley and Capsey together, who were both the aggressors in their 25-ball alliance worth 41 runs.

In the 9th over, Dunkley got to her first World Cup fifty while Capsey rounded it off with two boundaries. The duo then combined to hit three more in the 10th over to take England to 91/2 at the halfway stage. Kathryn Bryce ended Dunkley's knock in the 11th over and England endured a mini-lull to their innings, with Capsey falling in the 14th over. But Kemp arrived with the agenda of pushing up the scoring rate. She and Knight took three fours off Katherine Fraser in the 15th over, as England headed into the death overs on 130/4. They added 70 to that tally, with 59 of them coming in the last 18 deliveries. That was made possible by Kemp flaying Bryce for two fours and two sixes in a 20-run over, while Gibson laid into Gordon in the 19th that fetched 21 runs. Gibson then hit four boundaries off Priyanaz Chatterji in the final over to take the team to exactly 200.

Scotland didn't let the death-overs surge sway their intentions as they flew in the Powerplay through Darcey Carter and Katherine Fraser. Charlie Dean took out Fraser in the fourth over but Scotland finished their Powerplay with one more run than how much England managed in theirs. Optimism would've coursed through the Scottish veins at that point, only for Ecclestone to nip it in bud. She started the post-Powerplay period with the dismissal of Kathryn, who became her 150th T20I wicket. In her next over, she cleaned up Carter too.

Sarah still looked to give Scotland a lift as she went after Dean in the 11th over but Gibson struck in the following over to dismiss Megan McColl. 92/4 in the 12th over became 115/6 in the 15th as Scotland stared at a big defeat. But Gordon and Pippa Sproul threw their bats around at the death to add 47 off 33, to take Scotland to 162/7 in chase.

Brief Scores: England women 200/5 in 20 overs (Sophia Dunkley 57, Alice Capsey 40, Freya Kemp 39*, Danielle Gibson 30*; Kirstie Gordon 2-30) beat Scotland 162/7 in 20 overs (Sarah Bryce 34; Sophie Ecclestone 2-23) by 38 runs
