Donovan Ferreira bowled a wicket-maiden and finished with figures of 3-14 as Texas Super Kings bowlers powered their team to the top of the table with a commanding win over MI New York. In a straightforward chase, Ferreira remained unbeaten on 18 to see the team through.

All six bowlers used by Faf du Plessis returned a wicket at least. MI New York were hamstrung very early in the game, losing Monank Patel, Ryan Rickelton and Tajinder Dhillon inside the Powerplay. Adam Milne took out Monank and Rickelton; while Dhillon fell to Hardus Viljoen after hitting the bowler for two sixes and a four. MI NY had 50 in six overs, but for the loss of three wickets.

They then endured a middle wobble that saw Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard and Corey Anderson fall in quick succession. With that, MI NY were down to 64/7 in the 12th over. MI NY were then revived by a few lower-order stands. Sunny Patel and Corbin Bosch added 34 for the eighth wicket, before the former combined with Trent Boult for a 19-run partnership for the ninth. Boult arrived and swung for the fences in the death overs, connecting with one for a six and two fours in a 12-ball 18 cameo. The lower order managed 43 in the last five overs to push the team to 127/9.

That of course, turned out to be insufficient. Boult and Bosch started with two tidy overs but du Plessis got going against the New Zealand pacer in the third over with a six and a four. Rushil Ugarkar dismissed him in the fourth over but TSK didn't lose anymore for the rest of the Powerplay, even as they only got to 39/1.

Saiteja Mukkamalla hit a six off Sunny in the seventh over but his stand with Rilee Rossouw too wasn't rushed. They slowly took the team past six an over, and were separated in the 10th over when Dhillon dismissed Mukkamalla. TSK moved along at just about the asking rate until the trio of Ferreira, Milind Kumar and Wiaan Mulder took over, pushing the team past the finish line. Dhillon dismissed Milind for a 17-ball 22 while Ugarkar took out Rossouw (18 off 23) and finished his spell with 2-16.

TSK still needed only 29 off the last four overs when Boult returned to bowl. Ferreira welcomed him with a six and then tonked one against Bosch too, to speed up what was left in chase. Ten runs off Boult and 11 off Bosch left TSK to get just eight of the last two overs. They needed only one of those two as Mulder finished it off with a six against Anderson in the 19th over.

Brief Scores: MI New York 127/9 in 20 overs (Sunny Patel 26, Corbin Bosch 24, Trent Boult 18; Donovan Ferreira 3-14, Adam Milne 2-22) lost to Texas Super Kings 132/4 in 19 overs (Saiteja Mukkamalla 38; Rushil Ugarka 2-16) by 6 wickets
