David Warner admits to drunk-driving charge

David Warner has admitted to a mid-range drunk-driving charge, levied on him back in April.Warner's lawyer Bobby Hill conveyed the Aussie's admission, who wasn't required to be appear in Waverley Local Court.

Warner had returned a positive result for alcohol after he was stopped for a roadside test in Sydney on April 5.During a secondary test at the police station, the 39-year-old was seen to have more than double the legal blood alcohol limit. Warner's sentence has been set down for August 18.

"He knows what he did was wrong," Hill had previously said. "He accepts that was a reckless decision, a foolish decision to get in his car instead of taking an Uber."

"It's not a crime to have a glass of wine on the day of the Lord's resurrection. In fact, some would consider that completely appropriate," Hill said. "His crime is, as I said, choosing a foolish plan A instead of a plan B."

This incident is not expected to go down well with his Big Bash League franchise Sydney Thunder, where his captaincy could now be in doubt. Thunder, along with Sydney Sixers and New South Wales Blues, are part of the state government campaign to deter drink-driving.

"The allegations are of course concerning and we take them very seriously. At Cricket NSW, we are strong advocates for safe driving, not drink-driving," Cricket NSW chief executive Lee Germon had said after his arrest. He also reckoned that whether Warner remains captain will be 'worked through' later.
