PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Sri Lanka earlier in the day with their win over NZ have opened up this group. The defending champions might well have booked an early flight home with this loss but then you never know. It's all happening here. England at home look solid. They would just want their skipper to remain unscathed. Her presence in the middle was sought today and she showed her class. England don't have much experience in their lower middle-order and that is where they will be tested more and more. Their bowling has clicked and they cornered the game in the first half itself. We will take a leave for now but we will be back tomorrow with more cricketing action. Bye bye...
Nat Sciver-Brunt: Really happy. Obviously two very different looking games, but yeah, got over the line, so we're happy. I think the way the bowlers just took the game on. We took wickets throughout the innings as well to really stop any momentum. We knew they had some players that could really take the game away from us, and the surface was really good. The outfield was quick, so yeah, I suppose we really wanted to control those areas and did that really well (On things that pleased her today). Yeah, just for caution. Yeah, I felt a bit tightness in my calf, so I thought I'd better not push it. Next time would wait two more runs. Just a precautionary measure (On her being retired out). We can't take any game lightly, really. We've found that in the previous T20 World Cups when it came down to net run rates. So yeah, obviously, we need to be switched on to those sorts of things, but yeah, hopefully we can keep going.
Gaby Lewis: Yeah, we obviously knew that it was under par. You know, close to 150 would have helped. But yeah, I mean that last over, obviously, helped us over our total. So the two girls out there, especially Louise Little, but yeah, obviously it was under par. So yeah, look, overall, proud of the girls. Yeah, I think it's our batting. Losing three wickets in the powerplay. That's something that we need to rectify. And then just, I guess, that builds a platform for the girls in the middle to really flourish there. So bowling, I think, is really good. Our energy in the field today was brilliant. And yeah, if we can carry those positives forward to Friday, I'll be happy. I think, you know, we've just got to focus on the positives in tournaments like this and keep building. Especially with the ball, you know, you'll name McGuire coming in, just so much energy and just wants to learn and learn and never again that she plays against top nations like England, she's just going to get better and better. I think first game under lights as well, so that's different for the girls. Some of the girls haven't even played under lights before. So learning every day and yeah, looking forward to that game on Friday.
Nat Sciver-Brunt felt some tightness in her calf and that's why she retired. She will be monitored. England want her to be okay as she was coming back from a calf injury.
Sophie Ecclestone, Player of the Match: Yeah, it's actually so nice to get off to a winning start, hopefully we can keep it going. Hopefully, we can go three from three on Saturday. Yeah, I was talking about that, I'm not really a stat girl, so to hear about that is actually really nice( On entering the top 5 wicket-takers list). Hopefully keep taking wickets. I'm really lucky to have a really great spin attack, so let's hope we keep going. It's really exciting, and I actually can't wait to keep it going.
22:37 Local Time, 21:37 GMT, 03:07 IST: England would have loved a more clinical show but WC games don't follow any pattern. Ireland scored a few at the end and went into the break with little momentum behind them. Danni and Amy started on a fidgety note and both fell in the same over to Maguire. Prendergast then got Capsey and all of a sudden England were under some pressure. But then the experience of Sciver-Brunt and Knight got together to ease out the nerves with a fifty plus partnership. Knight fell, Sciver-Brunt retired out but England had enough with the ball to chase it down in the 18th over. The only thing they would be worried about the injury to Nat Sciver-Brunt.

Cara Murray to Charlie Dean, FOUR, charges down, gets the bat down and squeezes the ball past cover for a four. England need one more blow to end this. They won't be that pleased with their effort with the bat but two points in a WC game would bring them some glee
