Australia Women vs Pakistan Women, 21st Match, Group A, ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 - CommentaryAUSW vs PAKW, 21st Match, Group A, ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 - Commentary
So, that's it from our side. Australia's dominance continues as they have won all four of their matches so far. Their net run-rate looks really healthy and it's safe to say that they are almost through to the semis. Pakistan, on the other hand, had another forgettable outing. Join us tomorrow for a top-tier Group B clash between England and West Indies at Lord's. Until next time, goodbye and cheers!
Sophie Molineux: (On their performance)Yeah, it was good. Nice crowd here tonight. Beautiful, beautiful night for cricket. And yeah, happy with the win. (On her captaincy role) It's been a challenge. It's been pretty different over the last few months, but I'm really lucky that the staff and players have been incredibly supportive. I've really enjoyed it, and if we keep putting in performances like that, it makes the job even more enjoyable. (On balancing everything as a captain) I think the good thing is that we've got options. We've got plenty of depth, and I feel like we're in a really good position in that regard. We can assess the conditions, look at the opposition, and then decide on the best batting and bowling combinations based on that. The depth in our squad is a really good problem to have. (On what pleased her the most?) It was really pleasing, I think even just to, to keep pushing on. I think we had a massive powerplay as well. Pez coming in was really attacking from the start and Voli's been hitting the ball beautifully and Mooney's made 80 the other day. So, it's great. (On anything she will like to address with the team?) I haven't really thought about that yet. We'll always review our games, and there are always areas we want to improve. Even though we've had a couple of strong wins, we haven't ticked every box in each game. There'll definitely be a review, and we'll make sure we're continuing to grow and get better.
Fatima Sana: (On her thoughts on the game) I think we just played our worst cricket in this game, and as a whole team we need to accept that. We need to go back, reflect, and improve ourselves. (On their preparation for tournaments like a World Cup) Personally, I think we got a lot of good practice in before coming here, but we still need a response from the team. That's what we need right now. Otherwise, we had some really good practice sessions and preparation. (On the positives from this game) I think our bowling was very good, especially the way we started. Nashra and Sadia bowled really well, which was awesome. We just need more players to support them because we struggled in other areas. We have good players and they can perform, but we need more contributions from everyone.
Ellyse Perry | Player of the Match: (On whether she enjoyed batting tonight?) Oh yeah, I really enjoyed it. Starting out there with a particular volley at the start and just getting a little bit of momentum back was really nice. And it's a great place to play cricket, so yeah, a good night for us. (On her bowling) I think I probably got a little bit lucky, but yeah, it was fun to bowl an over. It was nice to consistently take wickets across that innings as a bowling group. Pakistan's intent was really great and challenged us at different points. So, it was a nice kind of finish for us. (On how did she pace her innings and her thought process) To be honest, it probably wasn't too complicated. We felt like it was a good place to bat, having had the experience of getting here about a week ago. We just wanted to keep taking the game on. I think often the powerplay is the best time to bat. The way Volli targeted straight and if you got anything back of a length, you could really hit through the line. So yeah, I felt like it was just a nice time to bat. (On whether they had a target in mind?) I guess you always want to keep the momentum going. I think we were there or thereabouts, 10 an over. Depending on the back-end finish, you always want to push up around 200, which is where we ended up. But I think we still got challenged a lot through that innings. We lost wickets consistently at times. So it was nice to keep the rate going, but we probably could have been more polished at times. (On how is she so consistent?) I don't know, I just really enjoy it. All the challenges that playing cricket throws at you, and particularly doing it with such a great group that we've got there. Training's really fun. You're always trying to get better in some way or another. I think the game moves so fast these days, you've got to keep up with it. So yeah, I guess just working on things and enjoying it as you go.
21:29 Local Time, 20:29 GMT, 01:59 IST: Australia continue to march on and have put one foot into the semi-finals! They have stamped their authority once again in the mega event to conquer Pakistan with consummate ease. Perry's 48-ball 71-run knock and cameos from Voll at the top and Sutherland and Carey down the order drove the Aussies to an above-par total. At the halfway stage, Pakistan were always playing the chasing game considering their batting woes this World Cup. Losing three wickets inside the powerplay pushed them further on the back foot. Australia never allowed Pakistan to build any meaningful partnerships thereafter. Three run-outs compounded Pakistan's woes and reflected their struggles under pressure. The fact that only three Pakistan batters reached double figures tells its own story. Molineux, Sutherland and Perry took two wickets apiece to shut the doors on the opposition. A 113-run victory only underlined Australia's complete dominance. Presentations will be coming up shortly...
