Hyderabad Kingsmen vs Islamabad United, 36th Match, Pakistan Super League 2026 - CommentaryHYDK vs ISU, 36th Match, Pakistan Super League 2026 - Commentary
That is all from this game. Four league matches remain, and four teams are still in contention for the fourth and final playoff spot. Interestingly, the final league game will be between Islamabad United and Multan Sultans. The winner of that match will face Peshawar Zalmi in the Qualifier on Tuesday in Karachi, while the loser will play Eliminator 1 on Wednesday in Lahore. Do remember to tune in for all the action over the next couple of days. Cheers!!
Shadab Khan | Islamabad United skipper: (Translated from Urdu) This is the kind of win we needed, and it’s come at the right time to build momentum in the tournament. After losing the previous match, it was important for us to bounce back and fix the things that went wrong. Richard’s spell in the powerplay was outstanding - taking three wickets early makes a huge difference. Our spinners also complemented the effort really well, and personally, I was happy to contribute with three wickets too. Experience plays a big role in these situations; players who’ve played leagues around the world bring great energy and composure, which makes things easier for me as a captain on the field. That catch was a bit tricky with the lights, but thankfully it stuck, and now the goal is to carry this momentum forward.
Marnus Labuschagne | Hyderabad Kingsmen skipper: We arestill smiling, but honestly, it wasn’t the performance we were hoping for. We know how to win big, and clearly, we know how to lose big as well, so it is what it is. The important thing now is to park this game because our season is still alive going into the last match, and that’s where our focus is. I think it was a combination of factors tonight - they bowled in the right areas and got the ball to swing, and we tried to take the powerplay on, which has worked for us before but didn’t come off today. Once we were on the back foot, we just couldn’t recover or build towards even a 120 or 130 total.
Richard Gleeson | Player of the Match: It was nice to have conditions that allowed the ball to swing up top, so the plan was to keep things tight and build pressure early. Getting three important wickets in the powerplay really helped us set the tone. Mirza coming back into the side gave great support from the other end, and the spinners did a fantastic job of finishing things off. Yesterday’s loss was disappointing, but with back-to-back games, we had a good chance to put it right straight away, and I think we did that. We’ve got a lot of depth in our bowling attack, especially with quality spinners, so there’s always pressure to perform because someone else is ready to step in - but that’s a good thing for the team.
21:24 local, 16:24 GMT, 21:54 IST: They won the toss, put Hyderabad into bat, and dismantled their batting line-up with a superb all-round bowling effort. Gleeson, Shadab, and Imad Wasim picked up three wickets each to restrict them to just 80 inside 16 overs. During the chase, Conway fell for a second-ball duck, which was the only minor blip in an otherwise dominant display from United. Riaz batted with complete freedom, smashing six fours and two sixes in his 18-ball 42, while Sameer Minhas was content to play second fiddle. An excellent recovery from United after their loss to Rawalpindiz yesterday. Stick around for the post-match reactions...
