PLAYER OF THE MATCH
An acrimonious finish to what was otherwise a superb game of 50-over cricket, but as things stand it's Sri Lanka 'A' who walk off with the points. That leaves India 'A' in a must-win situation against Afghanistan 'A'. That should be another cracking encounter coming up next. Do join us for all the action. For now, cheers and bye..
Sahan Arachchige - It's wonderful to win the match. Sadeera batted really well and the bowlers did their job. Viyaskanth and Chamika batted really well, which was the key to our win today. We want to treat the last match as another normal game and aim to win.
Tilak Varma - The games have been very close, this one went close and unfortunately we lost it in the Super Over. The partnership between Suryansh and Vipraj was outstanding and they did a good job. Overall, the bowling was good. The spinners were excellent and Arshad bowled well in the death overs.
Sadeera Samarawickrama | Player of the Match - The wicket was two-paced, it was hard to bat. But we batted deep and were confident. I just wanted to bat till the end and I got good support from everyone else.
India 'A' had earlier performed exceptionally well to pull themselves back into the contest - Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam's 104-run stand for the 8th wicket helped them recover from 143 for 7. But how costly did those two warnings prove to be for his team? India 'A' were docked 10 runs due to those mistakes, which eventually cost them the match. They did very well to claw their way back into the game after the hosts got off to a flier. But Sadeera Samarawickrama (93) kept one end going and ensured that his team was always in front. But Arshad Khan bowled a superb 50th over and nearly clinched a heist for India 'A', only for things to turn outright ugly - the onfield umpires didn't help the cause one bit and seemed to have lost control. At the end of the day though, Sri Lanka 'A' have the two points and they're all but through to the finals. Stay tuned for the presentations..
Some contest this and the match ended in darkness. Did Chamika offer a shot off the last ball? The Indians were incensed and have to say that they lost control. Tilak Varma pleaded his case with the two umpires, but the decision was made and a super-over was in store. The controversies didn't end there either. Once again, the Indians were angry with a wide call and then a no-ball call. Vaibhav had actually gone back to prepare for his batting stint, and the rest of the Indians were on their way back, forcing everyone to return. SLA made 16 in the super over and it was always a tough chase under deteriorating conditions. Kuhathus Mathulan then bowled a superb over to ensure his team grabbed the two points.
Oh dear! Sri Lanka A win, they celebrate and it's all beginning to unravel. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is upset with something and there's some argy-bargy between him and one of the fielders. Looks like something has been said by one (or few) of the Sri Lankan fielders. Suryansh drags his partner off with him after some glove-love between the duo. But he stopped and turned back. There is a verbal spat provoked by the home team, Vishen Halambage was clapping and saying a few provocative words. He was kind of charging at Suryansh. Another fielder almost bumped into Suryansh. Because of this even Vaibhav had to get involved to support his partner. Vaibhav then pushed Vishen away with his left hand, after which experienced Dickwella immediately separated the duo and skipper Sahan also tries to calm the situation. The Sri Lanka A supportstaff were actually exchanging pleasantries with themselves when this was happening and they are caught unaware by the altercation in the middle. They wear a puzzled look as to what exactly happened. Vaibhav while walking off turns back and gives a few words back with a pointed hand to someone. As the Indian team walk onto the field to shake hands, Yudhvir questions the actions of his teammates to Sahan Arachchige, the captain. Dickwella then pats him on the shoulder to calm him down and both teams shake hands with each other.
Ball 6: Kugathas Mathulan to Vaibhav, no run, Sri Lanka A win the game. Mathulan nails the yorker and Vaibhav swings and misses. Wild celebrations from the Sri Lanka A side. INDA 9/0
Ball 5: Kugathas Mathulan to Vaibhav, FOUR, Vaibhav flicks this length delivery down the leg-side and the short fine leg fielder fumbles. The ball escapes for four but the keeper applauds the bowler because he didn't concede a six. INDA 9/0
Ball 4: Kugathas Mathulan to Vaibhav, 2 runs, full ball outside off stump, Vaibhav drills it hard but all along the ground to long-off and they scamper back for the second run, INDA 5/0
Ball 3: Kugathas Mathulan to Suryansh Shedge, 1 run, mistimes the slog and drags it for a run and Vaibhav will take strike. INDA 3/0
Ball 2: Kugathas Mathulan to Suryansh Shedge, no run, nails the yorker and it's a dot as Suryansh couldn't get it past the bowler. INDA 2/0
Ball 1: Kugathas Mathulan to Suryansh Shedge, 2 runs, Suryansh slogs and sends it behind square on the on-side, only two runs. INDA 2/0
India A will need 17 runs to win, but Tilak is still grumbling with the two onfield umpires. Not a happy situation even as the Sri Lankan fielders charge to the ground. Tilak is now chatting with his Sri Lankan 'A' counterpart and they're taking a reading of the light. Remember, we can't use lights for this tournament and the conditions should be fair for both teams. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Suryansh Shedge, the two batters for India 'A'. Kugathas Mathulan, the bowler
Ball 6: Arshad Khan to Avishka Fernando, byes, 1 run, he's missed a full toss and his partner has run through. Chanced his arm as the keeper had a shy and missed. SLA 16/0
More drama here. India are not happy that it's called as a no-ball. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had already gone back to get ready to bat, the Indians were moving towards the dressing room and everyone are called back. It's becoming darker and darker and we still have this run-chase to go
Ball 6: Arshad to Avishaka Fernando, no ball, a high full-toss from Arshad, over waist-high - Avishka slogged hard, gets a thick top-edge and the bat turned on impact. High and down towards mid-on. The mid-off fielder runs to his right settles under and takes the catch. Throws the ball and it hits the bowler after missing the stumps. SLA 15/0
Ball 5: Arshad Khan to Avishka Fernando, SIX, in the airrrr and just over the long-on fielder. Has Avishka made the decisive blow of the game? He swung this high, man at long-on was in play but he couldn't hold on. SLA 14/0
Ball 4, Arshad to Sahan Arachchige, 3 runs. Nicely played, very full and just outside off, Sahan leans across and then places the drive over cover, a long chase for the fielder and he's back for the third run. SLA 8/0
Ball 3: Arshad Khan to Avishka Fernando, 1 run, he nailing those yorkers right, another one dug out for a run. SLA 5/0
