PLAYER OF THE MATCH
This win has lifted the Kings to top top of the table - they now have three wins from six games. A fitting way for them to cap off their home leg and the home crowd enjoyed every bit of the action. The CPL 2026 caravan rolls on. Join us for another high-octane contest tomorrow. Goodbye for now.
Roston Chase: (On the crowd) The crowd was incredible. We haven't had the best season so far, but they've continued to turn up and back us. As a team, we really wanted to give them something to celebrate. We managed to get the win, then did a lap of honour, and seeing the pure joy on the faces of the people in the stands was just awesome. I want to thank them for standing by us. Please continue to support us through the highs and lows — we love them with all our hearts. (On Matthew Forde) That's the nature of the powerplay. Sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don't.
Rovman Powell: (On Russell's condition) He's okay now. He just felt a little bit dizzy after bowling his third over, but he's good now. (On being five down in the powerplay and how tough it was to recover from there?) Yeah, it's very, very difficult. If you have five of your main batters out in the first six overs, that is chaos. That is a recipe for disaster, and that happened tonight. Credit has to be given to the guys. They stuck to it and gave us a fighting total of 170. (On the conditions) I think as a batting group, we just didn't bat. We came on a wicket that is a good wicket for batting, and we just felt as if we had to play shots from ball one. That set us on the back foot very early, and credit has to be given to Matthew Forde. I think he bowled well in the powerplay. (On Carty being one of the shining lights) Yeah, definitely. He has been somebody we look to anchor the innings for us. Fortunately for us tonight, he did that. (On their bowling) I think we had a poor game, a poor game in all disciplines. We didn't bat properly, and I think we didn't bowl properly. We have our different plans as a bowling group. We thought 170 runs, after getting it, was a fighting total. We needed a few early wickets, but we felt as if we were in the game. It's a matter of execution.
Matthew Forde | Player of the Match: (On the crowd) I just want to say a thank you to the crowd. You know, we owe it to them. They held up their side of the bargain, so I'm really happy to get a victory today for them. (On what worked for him tonight) Well obviously, for me it's about sticking to that six to eight-metre length. There are some games it's not going to work, but for me, if it happens three out of five games, it's just about keeping myself in check for the other two games and staying grounded and trusting the process, trusting my abilities, and there's so much planning that goes on behind the scenes as well. So, I'm really happy to see that some of those plans really worked and came out today, and we came out with a victory. Now, obviously Saint Lucia is my second home. I love it here. It's the only place I'd rather be other than Barbados. So to have my family here, my dad is in the stands as well. I just want to say shout out to him. He's always here for every game. I love you, big guy. But yeah, I'm getting goosebumps now because there's no better feeling than playing at home and playing in front of your home people. (On how will he take this wonderful performance forward) Well, for me it's about whether it's a bad performance or a good performance, if I dwell on it at night, by the morning time it's about what are you going to do again to get better. So for me, yes, I got five wickets. I want to thank God firstly, but for me it goes through the window and then work starts again in Trinidad all over again. So really, really, really happy to get going this game and looking forward to what Trinidad brings.
Pooran took on Smith in the 9th over and hit him for two sixes and a four in his opening over and in the process, raised a superb fifty. 33 came off two overs and that swung the momentum completely in favour of the home side. But right after the timeout, Lawes struck off his first delivery to dismiss Campbell. Jeremiah also fell soon after and then Chase was knocked over cheaply by a pinpoint yorker from Hunain Shah. A bit of pressure was transferred back onto the hosts but Pienaar came out with intent and found his range from the word go. His blazing 34-run cameo off just 14 balls took the pressure completely off the Kings. Pooran stayed till the end and his unbeaten 81 off 49 helped his team to track down 169 with ten balls to spare.
22:32 Local Time, 02:32 GMT, 08:02 IST: A comprehensive victory for the Kings to get their campaign back on track after a couple of successive defeats. Daren Sammy has a warm smile on his face and applaud his players from the dug out. The game was set up by a superb opening spell from Forde who eventually finished with a 5-wicket haul. The Kingsmen rebuilt through Carty who struck a calm fifty while a couple of powerful cameos from Russell and Smith led the visitors to a fighting total. In response, Seifert fell early and the pressure was on the hosts as the opposition bowlers kept a lid on the scoring rate. Things were meandering along although Pooran was scoring at a good clip.
