A county professional, Matt Walker flirted with international reckoning but never made it to the highest level. He began his county career at Kent before moving to Essex. A steady middle-order batsman, Walker scored over 12000 first-class runs. Additionally, he was an occasional medium pacer and a sharp fielder. After retirement from all forms of cricket, Walker served as the batting coach of Essex. In April 2014, he vacated Essex to land an assistant-manager role with Kent.
