Having played at every level of age-group cricket for Warwickshire, Peter John Mckay was known to be a tough nut and as Warwickshire's Academy keeper he kept wickets with a broken finger which stood out as a testament to his character and temperament. After making his First-Class debut against Oxford MCCU in April 2013, McKay engineered a 88-run stand with Jeetan Patel to help his side draw the game against Hampshire; and he did it all with ruptured ankle ligaments.
McKay got most of his opportunities in 2013 - when Tim Ambrose had an injury - and after Ambrose's (Warwickshire's first-choice wicket-keeper at that time) recovery he found it hard to find a place in the senior team. His best innings for the club came in a Royal London Cup quarter-final game against Essex where he smashed 19 off five balls in the last over of the match off David Masters' bowling. With Tim Ambrose preferred as the first-choice keeper, and with opportunities getting slimmer with each passing season, he was released by the club at the end of the 2015 season.
