SRI LANKA A VS INDIA A - 1st Match
SLA Inngs
Garuka Sanketh to Ayush Badoni, out Lbw!! Slower delivery does the trick. A slower yorker at the stumps and Ayush Badoni completed gets deceived by it. Looks to swipe it through the leg-side, gets rapped on the pads, and up goes the umpire's finger. End of a handy cameo by Ayush Badoni. Ayush Badoni lbw b Garuka Sanketh 24(18) [4s-2]
Mohamed Shiraz to Tilak Varma, out Bowled!! Another set batter departs. Sri Lanka pulling things back to an extent. Pitched up by the bowler around off, Tilak Varma goes for sweep and ends up getting a bottom edge onto the stumps. He shuffled way to across, hence couldn't middle it. A pretty handy innings, but his strike rate could have been much better. Tilak Varma b Mohamed Shiraz 60(97) [4s-2 6s-1]
Wanuja Sahan to Ruturaj Gaikwad, out Caught by Avishka Fernando!! Ruturaj Gaikwad departs after notching up a well deserved century. Goes for the slog and holes out to deep mid-wicket. Fernando latches onto a safe catch and Ruturaj Gaikwad walks back to a standing ovation from his teammates. A pretty impressive knock that was. The ball was very close to the rope but Avishka judged it well. Rutu looked at the bottom of the bat after the catch was taken. Was Tilak unhappy that Rutu got out or was he passing on a message to the dugout through Rutu? He seemed a bit animated as well in his chat as Rutu was making his way back. With a lot of power-hitters to follow next, India A will try to maximise the final overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad c Avishka Fernando b Wanuja Sahan 101(114) [4s-6 6s-3]
Ravindu Fernando to Ruturaj Gaikwad, out Priyansh Arya Run Out!! 1 run completed. Brainfade moment from Priyansh Arya. There was easily two in it and it's evident from the fact that Ruturaj was able to get home even before the keeper collected the throw. Priyansh thought other wise and stood his ground. The call was too late and Rutu was already cruising. Unfortunately for Priyansh when he tried to ground his bat inside the line before Rutu crossed, Dickwell's foot came in the way and he couldn't ground the bat inside the crease. With both batters at the keeper's end, Dickwella underarmed the ball to the bowler, who took the bails off at his end. It was a push to deep cover, even the deep fielder was jogging, which is why Rutu thought he could steal a second run. In fact he did complete two runs. The replay confirms that Rutu when calling for the second run, looked at his partner, saw Priyansh take off and was convinced his partner was coming. So he turned his head towards the ball to see how quickly it's coming as he had to make it in time. Meanwhile, Priyansh suddenly decided the run wasn't on and slammed the brakes. Now Rutu is ball-watching because he had already got the signal of yes from Priyansh so had no doubts in his mind. Since he's ball-watching, he isn't aware that Priyansh had stopped. Only when he got close to the crease that he got know that his partner had stopped. The funny thing is, Ruturaj had even crossed the stumps before the keeper got the ball. Needless runout when Priyansh Arya was looking good and he has only himself to blame. Priyansh Arya run out (Avishka Fernando/Dickwella/Ravindu Fernando) 32(32) [4s-4 6s-1]
Karunaratne to Prabhsimran Singh, out Caught by Samarawickrama!! Oh that's a great bouncer and Prabhsimran Singh was totally surprised by the length. The ball thuds the glove and goes up, backward point runs in, dives full length and takes it inches off the ground as well. Two great catches resulting in two quick wickets. India in a spot of bother. Full credit to Chamika Karunaratne to having the thought to dig it into the pitch. The batter was not expecting that at all. Prabhsimran couldn't get out of the line as it came around his left chest. Flings the hand in pain as he walks off. Replays confirm sharp bounce and Prabhsimran was gesturing to his PBKS opening partner that kicked off. Prabhsimran Singh c Samarawickrama b Karunaratne 2(11)
Mohamed Shiraz to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, out Caught by Sahan Arachchige!! Oh that's a lovely diving catch at mid-off. Vaibhav wanted to belt this full ball down the ground, but the bat turned in his hands and flew towards mid-off. The Sri Lanka A skipper judged that so well and ensured he plucked the ball inches from the ground. Massive wicket as Vaibhav could have easily helped India get an above-par total. So the excitement is evident in the home camp. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi c Sahan Arachchige b Mohamed Shiraz 14(12) [4s-3]
INDA Inngs
Arshad Khan to Mohamed Shiraz, out Caught by Vipraj Nigam!! India A have pulled off a heist. They have bounced back towards the end overs and registered an impressive win. Sri Lanka were in the driver's seat in the last 2 overs, but Arshad Khan has bowled an excellent over. This is the third wicket of the over. One was a run-out, but Arshad Khan has taken two of those three wickets. He is pumped up and rightly so. Was a length ball on the pads and Shiraz whipped it towards deep mid-wicket. Vipraj Nigam with a stunning diving catch in the deep to draw curtains to the game. Mohamed Shiraz c Vipraj Nigam b Arshad Khan 0(3)
Arshad Khan to Mohamed Shiraz, out Wanuja Sahan Run Out!! Comedy of errors and Sri Lanka are nine down. Mohamed Shiraz had chipped this past the bowler’s dive, and Wanuja sets off for a single. Gaikwad moves across from mid-wicket, collects the ball watchfully and takes off the bails with the batsman way down the wicket. That's a suicidal run-out because Wanuja looked in good touch and he was Sri Lanka's last hope. No idea what was Wanuja doing there. Anyway, India need only wicket more to win this match. Wanuja Sahan run out (Ruturaj Gaikwad) 23(16) [4s-3]
Arshad Khan to V Viyaskanth, out Lbw!! Another one bites the dust. That was a good length delivery from round the wicket and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth tried to whip it away. Gets beaten and rapped on the pads. The bowler was charging to collect the ball, but the keeper was appealing, and up went the umpire's finger. This match is not over yet. Sri Lanka need 9 runs in 10 balls, only 2 wickets remaining though. V Viyaskanth lbw b Arshad Khan 5(4)
Anshul Kamboj to Sahan Arachchige, out Bowled!! Anshul Kamboj gets a wicket at a crucial time. A perfect yorker at the stumps, Sahan Arachchige tries to squeeze it out, but gets a bottom edge as the ball disturbs the furniture. They're seven down as the hosts need 16 off 16. Is there a twist in the tale? Sahan Arachchige walks back to the pavilion to a standing ovation from his teammates. Such a lovely knock it was. Has put Sri Lanka within touching distance of a win. Sahan Arachchige b Anshul Kamboj 74(72) [4s-6 6s-2]
Vipraj Nigam to Karunaratne, out Caught by Ayush Badoni!! Chamika Karunaratne's rusty knock finally comes to an end. Struggled for most part of his innings, and he has been dismissed by Vipraj Nigam. Looks to slog this towards wide long-on, but doesn't get the timing right. Badoni runs across to his right, keeps his eyes on the ball and completes a well-judged running catch. This match is going right down to the wire. Karunaratne c Ayush Badoni b Vipraj Nigam 9(21)
Anukul Roy to Ravindu Fernando, out Caught&Bowled!! Anukul Roy strikes again, that's his second wicket. Ravindu Fernando fails to make an impact. That was a really soft dismissal. Was a tossed up delivery by the spinner and Ravindu Fernando tried to whip it away, ends up chipping it back to the bowler. Anukul Roy completes an easy return catch and Sri Lanka have lost half their side. Looks like this chase is probably going right down to the wire. Ravindu Fernando c and b Anukul Roy 1(5)
Anukul Roy to Samarawickrama, out Caught by Suryansh Shedge!! Just when we were praising him, he has thrown his wicket away. Advances down the wicket and tries to whip this across the line, ends up miscuing it completely. Shedge at long-on completes a safe catch and Anukul Roy has broken the 78-run partnership. Can India pick a few wickets more and make this match even more interesting? Samarawickrama c Suryansh Shedge b Anukul Roy 46(51) [4s-4]
Vipraj Nigam to Nuwanidu Fernando, out Stumped!! That's brilliant bowling. Previous delivery he beat the inside-edge with an in-drifter and now bowls the googly. Tosses it up more and draws Nuwanidu down the pitch, the ball spins in to beat the inside-edge and Prabhsimran is quick to remove the bails. Nuwanidu tries to get back in but is well short of the crease. Third wicket in quick time for India. Nuwanidu Fernando st Prabhsimran Singh b Vipraj Nigam 8(17)
Ayush Badoni to Dickwella, out Caught by Anukul Roy!! Second wicket for Badoni. Both openers back in the hut and India are right back in this contest. Once again slower through the air, drifting in and Dickwella decides to sweep, gets a top-edge and the ball balloons towards short fine, simple catch for Anukul. The part-timer is doing the job for India. Dickwella c Anukul Roy b Ayush Badoni 47(45) [4s-6]
Ayush Badoni to Avishka Fernando, out Caught by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi!! Badoni breaks the partnership. Much needed breakthrough for India. These two were taking the game away from them. Sri Lanka are still ahead but India have an opening. Avishka sits down and belts the sweep, struck it hard but straight to square leg. Sooryavanshi didn't move an inch as he lapped it up in front of the umpire. Avishka Fernando c Vaibhav Sooryavanshi b Ayush Badoni 45(59) [4s-7]
