Sri Lanka will be without Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal for the second Test against India in Colombo. Top-order batter Pathum Nissanka is also a doubt for the game, leaving the hosts short of three first-choice batters in what’s a must-win Test match in Colombo.

"Kusal Mendis has got a proper hamstring injury. He's not going to be available for a while," Sri Lanka head coach Gary Kirsten said after the loss in Galle.

"I'm not sure of the injury update, but as it stands at the moment, those guys... Nissanka as well, Dinesh [Chandimal] is not available for the next Test. We're missing a few guys."

Mendis has been out since injuring his hamstring during the Lanka Premier League. Niroshan Dickwella, who replaced him in the Test squad, made 80 in the first innings in Galle.

Nissanka, meanwhile, is recovering from wrist surgery whereas Chandimal hurt his neck and shoulder while fielding in the Galle Test. Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who made his debut as Chandimal's concussion substitute, scored a first-ball duck.
