PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Melbourne Stars jump up to the second spot with this emphatic win. While Sydney Thunder are out of the playoffs race, the remaining seven teams will fight hard for those four spots. That's it for today. We'll be back tomorrow for another BBL double header. Until then, goodbye...
Sam Harper | Player of the Match: (On holding the Melbourne mace) Heavy, too heavy for my little muscles. It's great to get it back, nice to get our fifth win. (What's clicking for him) Just trying to hit good shots in my strong areas and not predict too much and hit the ball where it needs to go with a good shot. That's pretty much it. (On batting with Maxwell) From Maxi telling me to take the strike, the international superstar, I'm very lucky to be batting with and playing with. Just nice to have a good partnership with him. All of us who have played a bit of BBL now know that it doesn't always go your way. So it can be a cruel game sometimes, but it makes a nice night tonight. Yeah, all the more fun and enjoyable. So another awesome derby crowd. We're just pumped to be playing in front of people and having a good time. (On winning the Melbourne derby) I had an awesome time with the Renegades. Had one of the best days of my life out here winning that title, which I'll reflect on at another time in my life. But, close and fun with a lot of those boys. They were sort of the first ones that gave me a great opportunity. But, yeah, I'm loving my time with the Stars.
22:23 Local Time, 11:23 GMT, 16:53 IST: A dominating performance from the Stars to win this Melbourne derby. They pulled things back superbly in the death overs to restrict the Renegades to 166. And then, with the bat, they were aggressive from the word go. The two openers got off the blocks quickly and the Stars scored 50 runs off the powerplay. Even after the 4-over period, Thomas Rogers went after the Renegades bowlers to record a 19-ball fifty. A run-out resulted in the left-handed opener to get out but the damage had been done. Campbell Kellaway fell in the very next over. However, Sam Harper - the current leading run-getter of this season - batted beautifully and kept finding boundaries at will and remained unbeaten till the end to take his team over the winning line. Maxwell was a little bit subdued with his approach today as he struck just one six in his 17-ball innings. He allowed Harper to dominate the proceedings in the 78-run unbeaten partnership.
