PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's it from this game. We will be back for another double-header. See you there. Bye for now.
Ashton Turner | Multan Sultans captain: "Pre-game about trending in the right direction. We're going to be playing our best cricket at the pointy end of this competition. And I think tonight is a nice addition to that curve. We feel like we're starting to put together some complete performances. I think our bowling attack in particular were excellent tonight. Well supported in the field and gave us a total that we felt like was chaseable. (running hard between the wickets when him and Masood were batting) Yeah, doesn't matter how you get them. You just got to find a way that works. And, you know, I think the pace was drawn out of that wicket towards the back-end of the game, as you'd expect, this block has had a lot of cricket on it. And we felt like, whilst, some of the boundaries are smaller than other places in the world. So fielders were sat on the fence and we felt like it was a way to get into our innings and if the boundary is presented, we felt like then we could try and take that opportunity. (on finishing in the top two) I think history would suggest that across all competitions, and particularly in franchise T20 cricket, that the teams that eventually hold the trophies are generally teams that finish in the top two and get an easier path through to the final. So clearly we want to be one of those two teams, as does the seven other teams in this competition. So we're no different. And I think that's the plan for us."
Mohammad Rizwan | Rawalpindiz captain (translated from Urdu): We had kept a target of 170 in our mind. This was a different pitch to the last one we played. Credit to Steve Smith, he played well despite us putting him in trouble. He picked up the rhythm and the match went their way. (talking after losses, a tough thing?) Definitely. Losing 8 out of 8 is hard and then to come here and talk to you is difficult. But I think, I play club cricket, department cricket and first-class cricket. But this is a higher level. We are still focussed on getting that win but we are making regular mistakes - if you see today, in our fielding we dropped a catch, then Smith played well, so some things are not going in our favor, so the results are not coming our way. But still we will put in the effort and the rest is in god's hands. (against Islamabad, they have to win right?) Definitely. Islamabad v Pindi is always a rivalry. We put in a full effort this game, we will do the same for that game too. I will tell Shadab that you relax and come, we will come with full effort.
Steve Smith | Player of the Match: "Not really, yeah, it just happened to be that that one over that just felt right. Just kind of just working through it. It was quite a tricky wicket. It was a bit of skid, a bit of stop, and spin at times. So, yeah, was just trying to navigate that, spend a bit of time out there. And yeah, when the match-ups were suited, I tried my best to take it down. (targetting the leg-side) Yeah, I was trying to just find the middle of the bat as much as I could. Yeah, it was nice to find it on a few occasions and get us in front of the rate at that stage. But a lot of credit has to go to our bowlers, I thought they did a really good job tonight to get us in the position where we were. Chasing 167 was about right. So yeah, credit goes to them. (everyone contributing) No, no, absolutely. It's great when everyone's doing their job and different guys are coming off at different times and playing their roles. So yeah, we've had a good tournament so far. Hopefully, we can finish on a strong note in our last few games."
22:26 Local Time, 17:26 GMT, 22:56 IST: 8 games for Rawalpindiz. 8 losses this season. Rizwan though has words for Arafat Minhas in encouragement as they walk off. 166 was at least 30 short here. Smith played superbly, taking Razaullah for a hat-trick of sixes in one over. Rawalpindiz fought back with the wickets of Philippe and Smith. After that Multan needed a period of consolidation which was provided by Ashton Turner and Shan Masood. Just when it was looking tight, Turner released the pressure with a hat-trick of fours against Amir. The job was then completed with ease. Multan stay 2nd on the table after this win. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff....
