One side held wickets in hand and got a mega finish at the end with the bat (fastest MLC fifty), while the other side also held wickets in hand but couldn't quite get that extra push towards the end. That's was the difference in this game. That's how important Dre Russ's 19th over was, not with the bat but with ball, in his 600th T20 game. The Knight Riders are into the MLC final for the first time. They now wait for their opponents. Will it be the Unicorns again? Or will it be one of MINY or the Freedom, who are currently locking horns in the Eliminator. We will see you all there! Bye for now.

Jason Holder (2/2): (Did you always feel you were just one breakthrough away from giving yourselves a chance?) For sure. I always thought we were going to win the game. How close it was, I didn't know. But it's good to win these kinds of games. It just gives you a lot more confidence as a group, knowing that if the game comes so close, you can hold your nerve and get over the line. I thought Shadley again was outstanding. He bowled some difficult overs. He probably didn't start as well as he would have liked, but he really finished, executed, and closed out the game for us, which was really, really important. But I think that 19th over by Russ was just outstanding. It gave him a little bit more cushion in the last over. And it went down to the second last ball really. (On Andre Russell playing 600 T20s) Well, he's our Cristiano Ronaldo in our squad (smiles). We've got Lionel Messi in Sunil Narine, and we've got Cristiano Ronaldo in Andre Russell. The class speaks for itself. Six hundred games is by no means an easy feat. It just shows longevity, but not only longevity, but class. You've got to be able to perform over that period of time to play that amount of games. Today was just a perfect example of how great he is, and we should just celebrate him. We don't know how much longer he's got left. He's getting on in age, but he showed his class today. (Finally, can you look into that crystal ball? If you have Lionel Messi in your side, is it the Knight Riders to win the MLC Grand Final on Saturday and Argentina to win the football on Sunday?) I know we've got a 50-50 chance, really (laughs). So we'll sit back and watch the next two days and see what happens.

Jason Holder | Knight Riders captain (1/2): (Immediate thoughts?) Yeah, just really happy. The boys played an outstanding game of cricket. From ball one, we were switched on. The boys really put in a really big effort. We got a good start again in the powerplay. And then what can I say about Andre Russell? He was absolutely outstanding. He probably played a little bit out of character in terms of how he held it together. He batted pretty smartly. And then the finishing touch by Rovman (Powell) with the bat really gave us a really good total at the halfway stage. (How good has Sunil Narine has been?) He's been outstanding. Every single time we've called upon him, he's delivered. That's the class of a top individual. So, well done to him. I thought it was an outstanding team effort from the boys. Matthew Short played an oustanding innings They kept us under pressure. We never felt like we were really ahead of the game or winning the game, but that partnership they had for the second wicket was very, very crucial. It had us under a little bit of pressure at one stage. But then the boys held their nerve. I thought Russell bowled an outstanding 19th over and really got us over the line.

Rovman Powell | PoTM: (Is that your best innings or you wanna rate the 73 down at Pomona? Two outstanding knocks) I still think the 73 in Pomona is the better innings. Today was a little bit of entertainment, you know, the fans got their money's worth. But having said that, it was a very good all-round team performance. (On contributions from Munro and Russell) Yeah, we always talk as a batting group and say that we don't want to lose wickets in clusters. Both guys batting at the top of the order, number three, and Dre, they played fantastically well. They laid the platform for me to go and do what I do. As I say, it's good to be in a final. The guys have played some good cricket overall. (How much did you enjoy the knock on a tricky pitch) I got just clarity. And by the time I went to bat, I had no choice but to do what I did. But it's good to get a few on the bat, out of the middle. As a batter, you're always looking to play those kinds of innings. (What does it mean to be in the MLC final for the first time?) Yeah, it means everything. It's a franchise that hadn't qualified for the playoffs, and now we are in the final, one step away from our ultimate goal. It's just for us now to take tomorrow to rest, plan, see how the game goes today, and see how best we can come out and put on a performance for ourselves and the franchise in a few days.

Matthew Short | Unicorns captain: (An incredibly difficult toss-up today. What are your immediate thoughts?) It probably slipped away from us a little bit there. Credit to Rovman there at the end of their innings. I think we gave him a few loose ones and he capitalized on them. It was a serious innings from him. Obviously, we got off to a rough start with a couple of wickets in the first over, but I thought we fought back well and put ourselves in a decent position. Again, credit to LA's bowlers at the end. They nailed plenty of yorkers and made it really tough for us. (How did you and Sanjay form a blueprint after that shock in the first over?) We just wanted to stick to what we're good at - react to the ball, didn't want to create anything. Sunny (Narine) is a ripper bowler there. He's shown that throughout the tournament, so he put us under pressure early. It was important for us to consolidate there. We built a nice partnership, but unfortunately we couldn't get the job done. (You do play tomorrow - that's the benefit of finishing first. How do you see that game?) Uhh, well. I haven't even thought about tomorrow. But yeah, we know what we need to do. We know the conditions now, so we'll reassess, make any adjustments we need, and go from there.

Sunil Narine stunned the Unicorns by dismissing both the openers for golden ducks but Short led a great fightback by smartly playing Narine off the back foot, hitting four fours in his next over. Sanjay too joined the party and soon the partnership swelled from 50 to 100 to 150. Just when you thought the Unicorns were cruising, the Knight Riders took them by surprise at the death.

18:12 Local Time, 01:12 GMT, 06:42IST: Bravo and Watson share a bear-hug with each other as their boys have pulled heist. With that 150+ stand from Short and Sanjay, the Unicorns had everything in control. Enen after Sanjay was dismissed, it was 24 runs needed off 12 balls with 8 wickets in hand. It's an easy chase for modern day teams but that's when Dre Russ nailed those yorkers from round the wicket. Suddenly, the Unicorns could only get six runs and they needed 18 off the final over. Shadley managed to hold his nerve to take LAKR into the final. Short couldn't get on strike when it mattered the most towards the end and Hardie couldn't quite get going under pressure. Huge credit to the Knight Riders for executing the wide yorker plan to the right-handers from round the wicket.
