West Indies vs Sri Lanka, 2nd ODI, Sri Lanka tour of West Indies 2026 - CommentaryWI vs SL, 2nd ODI, Sri Lanka tour of West Indies 2026 - Commentary

18:36 Local Time, 23:36 GMT, 05:06 IST: It was inevitable - the second ODI has been abandoned - There was some heavy overnight rain and it continued onto this morning. We did have the toss, but it started to rain just when the game was to start. That rain never stopped, it wasn't very heavy, but it consistently poured and gave the groundstaff no chance. So, the series stays at 1-0 and we'll be back weather permitting on Monday for the final ODI. West Indies can't win the series now, but can they level it? Do join us for all the action on Monday. For now, cheers and bye..
18:00 Local Time, 23:00 GMT, 04:30 IST: It's still raining pretty heavily. The crowd are being entertained - the cut-off time for a 20-over game is 8:02 pm local. The fans are still patient enough, we have lost plenty of time already and we're set to lose more time. Dark overhead skies and we're a couple of hours away from the cut-off time.
17:30 Local Time, 22:30 GMT, 04:00 IST: No news from the ground and we've already lost three hours. The drainage facility here is pretty decent, but a lot of rain has fallen and the groundstaff will need plenty of time to get the ground ready once the rain stops completely.
16:30 Local Time, 21:30 GMT, 03:00 IST: Some live pictures, it's still drizzling and it's pretty heavy as well. Plenty of water on the covers and we continue to wait patiently. It's dark and damp - the floodlights have already taken full effect.
16:00 Local Time, 21:00 GMT, 02:30 IST: No change in the conditions, but we have started to lose overs. The forecast called for a few showers during the day. Hopefully, we will share better news in our next update.
15:25 Local Time, 20:25 GMT, 01:55 IST: It's still raining and there's hardly any activity from the groundstaff. We've lost 55 minutes already and aren't too far away from starting to lose overs
14:56 Local Time, 19:56 GMT, 01:26 IST: It's still drizzling, the pitch has been covered with the groundstaff milling around it. A couple of presentations though - first a momento for umpire Christopher Taylor who is making his international debut. Another presentation in the West Indies camp, it's for Shai Hope who is playing his 150th ODI - a jersey with number 150 is presented to him by fellow Barbadian Justin Greaves. But we'll have to wait for the match to begin - rain is back and so are the covers. The pitch and the square has been covered for now. Not a heavy shower, but we'll have to wait
There's a slight drizzle in the background, but it didn't stop the toss and it isn't heavy enough to stop the players from warming-up.
Teams:
West Indies (Playing XI): John Campbell, Justin Greaves, Keacy Carty, Shai Hope(w/c), Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Amir Jangoo, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales
Sri Lanka (Playing XI): Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendis, Kusal Mendis(w/c), Pavan Rathnayake, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Wanindu Hasaranga, Milan Priyanath Rathnayake, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Eshan Malinga
Kusal Mendis: The conditions could be tough, we need to play well in the powerplay overs. One change: Eshan Malinga replaces Asitha Fernando. We have our plans and that's why Malinga is in. We want to win the series today, just do the basics well as a team.
Shai Hope - We will bowl first. With the overhead, I'm not sure what will happen in the back-end. One change: Forde misses out with an injury and Jangoo comes in. We still have options; 3 quicks and Greaves can do a job as well. So happy with our choice.
West Indies have won the toss and have opted to field
If there's no more rain, the toss will be held at 2:30 pm and play will start at 3 pm
14:02 Local Time, 19:02 GMT, 00:32 IST: There was some rain around in the morning, it's not raining at the moment, but they're some ominous clouds in the back-ground. Plenty of water on the covers and the groundstaff are using sponges and a tray-bucket to remove them from the playing surface. The 4th umpire is overseeing proceedings while the two onfield umpires have had a look. Toss though has been delayed
13:35 Local Time, 18:35 GMT, 00:05 IST: Sri Lanka delivered a complete performance in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series at the Sabina Park. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis made half-centuries while useful forties from Charith Asalanka and Janith Liyanage helped them go past the 300-run mark. The hosts were spirited in their reply, but they were stalled by spin. Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana then combined to finish with 3 for 69 from 20 overs, ensuring that the hosts came nowhere near the target. Time is running out for the West Indies as they seek an automatic place in the 2027 Cricket World Cup. They are currently placed 10th and only the top-8 will join co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe with automatic places. Having seen West Indies struggle against spin in the 1st ODI, will Sri Lanka be tempted at bolstering it with the inclusion of Dunith Wellalage? Can West Indies show better application today? Toss and team sheets coming up shortly..
