PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's it from this one. We will be back soon with more BBL action. Do join us then. For now it's bye bye.
Steve Smith | Player of the Match: Yeah it was a nice wicket, obviously chasing 190 had to get off to a nice start. Babar and I had a really nice partnership there that set up the platform. And then got to the Surge and it was go time. So, yeah, fortunate enough to hit a few over the fence on the Surge and get us in front of the race. (on his 107m six) Top of the bounce, flick behind square. Probably 110. Yeah, it felt like it was a bit shorter this side. Maybe a bit of wind going that way as well. And just felt the seamers were probably the right match-up at that stage. I thought they would come and bowl into the wicket. I was just gonna try and launch a few and yeah, happened to hit a few in the middle. (what was the talk before taking the Surge?) Yeah, so we spoke at the 10-over mark and they said, take the Surge straight away. I was like, no, give it one over. I want to hit to the short boundary and I don't want to screw up the first over. And I looked to try and get 30 off that over. I think we got 32. So it's a good result. I'm not sure Babar was too happy with me knocking back that single though. (on their next game vs Heat) Yeah, I think it's another must-win for us. So yeah, huge game. Looking forward to getting out there and yeah, hopefully we can put on another show.
22:32 Local Time, 11:32 GMT, 17:02 IST: The Sixers take a big step towards the finals. Their next game vs Heat will determine who seal that fourth spot. Tonight it was all about Steve Smith. He had a chance to notch up the fastest BBL 100 ever but didn't get there. But that didn't matter as his knock was all class and timing. He smashed Ryan Hadley for 32 in an over - the costliest over ever in BBL history, his innings put Babar's knock into the shade who played some lovely strokes. One six from Smith hit the roof of the Brewongle stand at deep square-leg for one of the biggest sixes at the SCG. The pitch played well and Smith put on a clinic. He matched Warner's 100 and even though wickets fell after Babar went, the end came quickly with Jack Edwards and Lachlan Shaw applying the finishing touches. Stay tuned to find out who the player of the match is....
