PLAYER OF THE MATCH
What a lovely interview from Buttler after his historic achievement. So that wraps things up from this one. Hop over to our coverage of the other match which will get underway shortly at Trent Bridge. Goodbye!
Buttler (2/2): During the IPL I worked really hard on my technique. I do think that after the World Cup I had some space and time from the game and I just watched a few things. I'd say my setup had slipped a little bit. I actually felt like I'm not in a position where I'm picking the ball up well. I looked back at some footage, sort of reverse-engineered it as to where do I want to finish when the ball is released and worked back from there. Worked hard on that in the IPL and I've been continuing to do that. That's where the IPL has been fantastic for me. It's really interesting.. what comes first - the chicken or the egg. Is it your technique that allows your mind to be relaxed or is it your mind that's relaxed that allows your technique to work. You've just got to work out which is the one you're trying to fix that will help the other. I enjoy the craft of batting. I enjoy trying to work it out. It's easy to give up and sort of throw it away and say "I've lost it or whatever". I enjoy the feeling of being in there and scoring runs. And when you're out of form, I actually just miss batting. So you wanna get back to doing that, contributing to your team and experiencing that. So as long as I've got that enjoyment of the craft and the energy to try and work out of bad form or patches when it's not working, I'll keep going. When I don't have the energy - you can't come back when it's not working if you haven't got the mind to try and work it out.
Buttler (highlights from his chat with Sky Sports): Funny how quickly cricket can change. One day you're the dog, one day you're the lamp post. A few months ago I was struggling for form. And then, in the last few weeks especially, I probably feel like I'm batting as well as I ever have. It's been a lot of fun. You've only ever got two options. You either give up or you got the energy to keep going and try to rediscover your form. So that's all the things I've been focussing on. I've had energy and determination to try and get back there, and that's what I've done. Yeah it's really cool actually to think you've got the most T20 runs out of everyone (on becoming the leading run-scorer in T20 cricket, going past Pollard). Someone will surpass it one day and his name's probably Sooryavanshi. But no, it's a proud moment. Actually we played against MI London last game, would've been nice to get past Polly while he was there sat in the dugout. Some great names on there (the list of the leading run-getters), some special players, so yeah I'm really proud of that. It happened years ago (the shoulder wiggle). I was working with a coach who had me standing front-on and I felt horrible. So he was like "just relax, shake yourself out" and that's where it came from.
Seifert | Player of the Match: Trademark of our innings so far (in this comp) has been losing wickets, so we just tried to get off to a good start and maintain that run rate. Buttler coming in and doing what he did was quite nice to watch from the other end. Especially today, there was quite a big wind out there, so having the left-right definitely put the bowlers off. Credit to him (Walter), first game of the tournament, and the way he came out and showed what he can do is a credit to the squad as well. It's quite a hard tempo to decide how you go about it (in this format). Opening the batting, I think you can get caught at the other end sometimes and not get strike. Team's momentum is the main thing. So sometimes you have to put the individual aside and if the other guy's going, then that's great. It was kind of nice today that we both got going. We got two big games. We got Sunrisers at the end as well. The tournament's so fast. The wickets have all been different throughout the tournament. So we're going down there, will have to adapt to the wicket. Hopefully this is a good little booster for us.
17:26 Local Time, 16:26 GMT, 21:56 IST: Such a statement win from the Super Giants. Almost gave the impression that they were playing on a completely different surface compared to the first innings. When Welsh Fire were batting, the ball seemed to be holding and keeping a little low. Conditions might have improved later but the way the hosts dominated the run chase was so impressive. Seifert and Walter took the game away in the first 30 balls, racing to 70/0 and then Buttler put on a real show with his 20-ball fifty which included six sixes. In the process, he overtook Kieron Pollard to become the leading run-getter in T20 cricket. Super Giants eventually romped home with 31 balls to spare.
