Rovman Powell | Jamaica Kingsmen captain: [On what the victory means after three defeats] It means everything. Three defeats, left a bitter taste in our mouth. Credit has to be given to the guys. They came out with energy, even though it’s potentially the best team in CPL we’re playing against, but credit has to be given to them. Credit has to be given to the fans also. They really come out and supported us. They are quite a lot of loyal fans. [On beating the defending champions and whether it brings out the best in the team] Yeah, yeah, definitely. I told you the last interview that this is where captaincy and a good coaching staff will come. We sat yesterday and we had a good time. It wasn’t centered around cricket. It was centered around us getting to understand each other and just finding that love within the group. We know once we start doing the little things a little bit better, we’ll get over the line. [On the thinking at the halfway stage after Trinbago Knight Riders reached 182, particularly with their three world-class spinners] We always knew that their bowling is centered around those three world-class spinners. All we sat and we talked about is just to limit their wicket count. If they can go at six runs an over, but don’t get two, three wickets, especially in the middle, that wouldn’t hurt us. We know their weakness is their death bowling, so we’re trying to line up our power hitters against their death bowlers. [On the decision to promote McKenzie to open the batting] To be honest, a lot of credit has to be given to you (Samuel Badree). We had a conversation before the game and you explained to me that, potentially we need that move. So, I’m someone that is still learning as a captain and for somebody who has the experience as you, just said something to me at the start of the game and it really opened my mind. I went to the coach and he was very open with it. [On whether the win changes the trajectory of the team] Yeah, definitely. At the start of the day, I asked them what a win would feel like, especially such a strong Trinidadian team and I said, left a good taste in our mouth and also the fans. Hopefully they’ll come out Tuesday, our final home game for the season and we’ll put on a show for them again. A show that we will dearly love.

​​Nic Pooran | Trinbago Knight Riders Captain - [On where the game slipped away after Trinbago Knight Riders posted 182] It definitely slipped away there in the power play, losing 80 out in the power play. A bit unacceptable and when we look at it, obviously, McKenzie played a really good innings there. We wasn’t expecting that, but in saying that, we have to be better in the power play. [On whether he would have done anything differently with the ball or in the field] I mean, there’s another things we could look at and say we could do this and do that. At the end of the day, we all have roles and responsibilities in our team and some days we’re going to do it well and some days we’re going to do it poor. We have to accept that because it’s sports. [On the positives from the performances of Sunil Narine, Usman Tariq, himself and Kieron Pollard] Again, the Caribbean is built on senior players taking responsibility and doing it for this team. Obviously, this year, we have a lot of younger players who will be getting the opportunity and they have to take it as well. It’s only so much a senior players could do, but in saying that again, really happy with the way the guys played and got that score. Again, a lot of positives from that. We felt like we can defend that score. Obviously, the bowlers are not going to have it easy or have it their way every single time. But again, we took it down to the 19th over, which is fine after that start, so that’s brilliant. A couple things we need to talk about, chat and we’ll come back and hopefully we can tick those boxes and be better.

Kirk McKenzie | Player of the Match - [On winning Player of the Match in Jamaica’s first win of the tournament at home] First, I want to thank God for giving me the strength and ability to come out here and perform. But it means a lot for me, but more for the team. It’s the first win coming from two close games that we lost. So it’s good to get on the board now. [On finding out he would open the batting and his thought process going into the chase] I actually knew when I came to the ground. The skipper came to me and told me I’d be at the top of the order. But it was just matchups really for me, I cannot say, for me to express myself in the matchups. [On taking down the Trinbago Knight Riders bowlers and the confidence behind his approach] The team put today, from the game, we being fearless, our backs against the wall, nothing to lose, wanted to give the home team, home crowd something to smile for. So it’s been fearless today. [On whether being under pressure makes the team more dangerous] Yeah, we’re very dangerous because they don’t know what we’re coming with. [On the support from the dressing room] Just to be free, play my game, don’t hold back, just be fearless. [On the confidence gained from what could be a career-defining knock] A lot of confidence. I’ve been doing a lot of work behind the scenes for it to now manifest itself. I’m really grateful.

22:56 Local Time, 03:56 GMT, 09:26 IST: 183 was going to be a tough chase, but the Kingsmen got a perfect start thanks to a stunning 25-ball 69 by Kirk McKenzie. The left-hander took on the Knight Riders bowlers and smashed the ball to all parts of the ground. Fours and sixes flowed with ease as McKenzie's innings took them to 93 after just 7 overs. There was a mile stutter in the middle as Usman Tariq took a 3-wicket burst, but that brought the experienced pair of Rovman Powell and Andre Russell to the crease. They batted sensibly to play out the spinners and then launched themselves at the hapless pace pair of Terrence Hinds and Nathan Edwards. Kingsmen had come close to victory in a couple of games earlier, but they now have points and will look to build on this success. Presentations coming up shortly..
