Mehidy discharged from hospital after head injury scare

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Saturday that ODI captain Mehidy Hasan has returned home from hospital after being admitted following a blow to the head sustained during Bangladesh's second match against Australia.

BCB officials said they were unsure whether Mehidy would be available for Bangladesh's training session on June 13 ahead of the third ODI against Australia, scheduled to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on June 14.

Miraz was struck on the helmet by a Nathan Ellis bouncer and appeared uneasy for a while. However, after receiving treatment, the all-rounder resumed his innings and struck a six during his run-a-ball 22, helping Bangladesh cross the 200-run mark in the second ODI.

Bangladesh won the second ODI by five wickets via DLS method to clinch a landmark series win.

"He (Mehidy) was under observation for almost 12 hours at Evercare Hospital as you know, he received a blow to the head from a bouncer and vomited, which was a bit concerning," team operations manager Nafees Iqbal said in a video message released by the BCB on Friday.

"But he continued playing and, immediately after the match, BCB doctors and the physio collectively decided he had to be sent to Evercare, even though he was feeling better. He underwent a scan, and the report of the first scan was good," he said.

"Today, he underwent a second scan, and since the report has come out good, he has been released from the hospital. I am not sure about practice tomorrow, but definitely our doctors and physio will be in communication with him regarding availability," he said.

Meanwhile, a member of the national selection panel told Cricketlineguruji that there are no changes to the squad for the third ODI.

"We expected Miraz to recover in time, since the scan reports have been good," said the selector.
