Fast bowler Prince Yadav has been drafted into India's squad for the upcoming ODIs against England as a replacement for the injured Harshit Rana, while Ravi Bishnoi replaces Varun Chakaravarthy, also down with an injury, in the T20I squad for the Zimbabwe tour.
During the drubbing at the hands of England in the T20I series, India suffered a double blow with hamstring injuries to both Harshit and Varun. The BCCI revealed that Rana had reported a sudden onset of discomfort in his right hamstring during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. Subsequent scans revealed a Grade 1 hamstring injury. Varun meanwhile felt it on his left hamstring during the same fixture, with scans revealing a more severe Grade 2 hamstring injury. Both will now report to BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for further assessment and management.
This fresh setback comes shortly after different injuries had kept them out of the game for long. During IPL 2026, Varun fractured a toe on his left foot and saw the season through with pain before missing the home series against Afghanistan and the T20Is in Ireland. He made an underwhelming return in England (0/35 and 1/37) before being sidelined again. Rana's misfortune with fitness struck him at a worse time, as he suffered a knee injury during India's warm-up match against South Africa which ruled him out of the home T20 World Cup in February and March. He needed surgery and rehabilitation before returning during the Ireland T20Is.
The impressive Yadav made his ODI bow against Afghanistan at home, picking three wickets in the two matches he has played so far. On the back of a good IPL campaign for Lucknow Super Giants where he picked 16 wickets in 14 matches, he also made his T20I debut in Ireland and featured in three fixtures against England too. Bishnoi meanwhile, had a good first six games in the IPL and finished with 11 wickets in 9 matches for Rajasthan Royals. Since making his T20I debut in 2022, Bishnoi has played in 46 matches - the latest coming in the England series. Though he endured a tough outing in Manchester and didn't feature in the rest of the games, he has been called-up to fill in for the void left by Varun's absence in Zimbabwe.
India will play three ODIs against England on July 14, 16 and 19 before making a quick trip to Zimbabwe where the three T20Is will be played on July 23, 25 and 26.
