Seattle Orcas vs San Francisco Unicorns, 28th Match, Major League Cricket 2026 - CommentarySOR vs SFU, 28th Match, Major League Cricket 2026 - Commentary
That is all from this contest. We'll see you tomorrow.
Matt Short | Unicorns captain: (On qualifying for the playoffs) Personally, a little bit tired, but very happy. The boys played really well there. Yeah, really nice for different guys to stand up at different times, not only tonight, but throughout the whole tournament. So I think we've locked in top two, I'm pretty sure. But yeah, very happy leading into the finals. (Reflecting on the season so far) Well, as I've just touched on, I think everyone's chipped in at the right time or at different times. There's been guys in and out of form or guys that have scored runs and taken wickets at crucial times for us. So it's not only one or two players that are standing up. It's, you know, it's Hasan Khan there at the end. It's Hamad Azam yesterday, you know, pinching in with some crucial runs. And then different guys taking wickets. I'm a happy captain when you've got different guys chipping in. (On heading back to San Francisco for the finals) It's going to be quite fun actually to head back to San Francisco, obviously in front of the home crowd. We had a pretty successful run there a couple of weeks ago. So yeah, we're looking forward to getting back there and playing in front of a home crowd. And yeah, hopefully we can bring back the trophy or keep it in San Fran.
Finn Allen | MVP: (On getting his first fifty of the season) I guess obviously hasn't been the start that I wanted, but yeah, I just, you know, gave myself a bit more of a chance today, wanted to stay a bit more disciplined with my mental routine, and yeah, just pretty much just react rather than trying to think about too much what was going on the other end. (On his opening partner Lhuan-dre Pretorius) He's a good man. You know, he's playing incredibly good cricket at the moment, so it's been good fun for me to watch at the other end for the few balls that I've been there. But yeah, it's good. You know, he's extremely talented.
Adam Voges | Orcas' head coach: (On posting a below-par total) I thought we probably just lost a couple too many wickets early. I think we were four wickets down at the halfway point. And yeah, look, I thought 190 was, we're in the game at least. It was around about maybe 10 under par, but it gave us a fighting chance. (On some key players being absent) We knew that was going to happen at the back end of the tournament. So we prepared as well as we could for that. We saw Lutho Sipamla come in, Sangha as well. I thought they had impact tonight. Yeah, we miss those guys, but yeah, we had known that that was coming for a while. (Reflecting on the season) I think there's a lot of positives to take out of it. We're disappointed. We wanted to make finals and unfortunately we missed out there. I think we'll reflect on a couple of really close games. Tonight's another one of those where we got ourselves into positions to win. That's the positive part. We just need to be able to finish some games off. And probably the last couple of days is a reflection of that.
23:21 Local Time, 04:21 GMT, 09:51 IST: Orcas knocked out and Unicorns are through to the playoffs. All four slots are now booked. Finn Allen set up the run chase nicely, finding form and getting them on track, Krishnamurthi and Short then had a slowish partnership as the asking rate climbed, but Hassan Khan took just 10 balls to smoke 36, finishing it off with an over to spare.
