Nitish Reddy has been ruled out of India's T20I series against Ireland and England with a quadriceps injury. The 23-year-old all-rounder had been selected in both the ODI and T20I squads for the tour of UK with Suryansh Shedge now named as his replacement for the two T20I series.
Reddy featured in two ODIs in the recently concluded home series against Afghanistan, claiming his maiden wickets in the format in Dharamsala. He then missed the second ODI in Lucknow, with captain Shubman Gill revealing at the toss that the all-rounder was dealing with "some issues with his quad". Reddy returned for the final ODI in Chennai, bowling six wicketless overs for 42 runs and was not required to bat.
"Nitish reported left quadriceps discomfort after the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. Following a subsequent medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has recommended a period of rehabilitation, ruling him out of both T20I series," a BCCI media release stated. It remains to be seen if Reddy is passed fit before the ODIs against England, which begin on July 14 in Birmingham.
The injury is the latest in a string of fitness setbacks that have hampered Reddy's progress over the past year. Concerns over his fitness significantly limited his bowling during IPL 2025, when he delivered just five overs across 13 matches. He was later ruled out midway through India's Test tour of England due to a knee injury.
During the recent IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling coach James Franklin spoke about Reddy's efforts to improve his fitness, noting that the all-rounder had increased both his bowling workload and pace. This latest injury, therefore, comes at an unfortunate time, just as he appeared to be building momentum and increasing his loads.

Meanwhile, Shedge earned the call-up following a string of impressive performances for India 'A' in the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka. Batting in the middle order, the 23-year-old scored 147 runs in five matches and also chipped in with the ball, bowling 23 overs across the tournament.
He was also one of the standout performers for Mumbai in their victorious Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in 2024-25, scoring 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92 in the lower middle order. Shedge also chipped in with usual contributions for the Punjab Kings in the just-concluded IPL 2026 season, aggregating 158 runs from seven matches at a strike rate of 175.56.
