Amir Jangoo (233) and Roston Chase's (194) knocks underlined West Indies' batting marathon against Sri Lanka in North Sound. Here are the major stats highlights from the Test.

401 The stand between Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase is the second-highest for any wicket for West Indies, only behind the 446-run second-wicket partnership between Gary Sobers and Conrad Hunte against Pakistan in Kingston in 1958. The pair batted for 100.2 overs - the fourth-longest for West Indies, where data available.

This also happens to be only the second 400+ partnership for any wicket against Sri Lanka after the 467-run third wicket stand between Martin Crowe and Andrew Jones in Wellington in 1991.

12 Chase and Jangoo became the 12th pair of West Indies batters scoring 150+ in the same innings. The last pair to do so was Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul in Bulawayo in 2023. The last pair to do so for West Indies at home was Ramnaresh Sarwan (291) and Denesh Ramdin (166) against England in Bridgetown in 2009.

11 Jangoo became the 11th West Indies batter to convert his maiden Test century to a double hundred. His 233 is the fifth-highest of the 11, behind Gary Sobers (365*), Brian Lara (277), Rohan Kanhai (256), and Faoud Bacchus (250). He now has three first-class centuries, all of which have been converted to double hundreds - the first batter to do so.

8 Jangoo became only the eighth player to register his maiden century in both Tests and ODIs within their first three innings in the format, this being his third innings in Tests. He scored a hundred on ODI debut. The other to do so are Abid Ali (only player to do so on his maiden Test and ODI innings), Hamish Marshall, Umar Akmal, Phil Hughes, KL Rahul, Devon Conway, and Kamran Ghulam.

233 is the second-highest individual score in Tests between West Indies and Sri Lanka, only behind Chris Gayle's 333 in Galle in 2010. This is the first double century in West Indian soil since Jason Holder's unbeaten 202 against England in Bridgetown in 2019.

2693days between Chase's last two Test hundreds - the last coming in February 2019 against England. Only one West Indian batter had a longer wait between two Test hundreds. There were 2968 days between the second of Shai Hope's twin hundreds in Leeds in 2017 and his third Test hundred last year in Delhi (days between start date of Tests).

Chase's 53-innings gap between Test centuries is the second-longest for a West Indies batter, behind Shai Hope's 58. His 150-plus knock is also his first score of 150 or more in Tests.

234 runs conceded by Sonal Dinusha is the second most by a Sri Lankan bowler in an innings in Test cricket. The only bowler to concede more is Rangana Herath, who gave away 240 runs against India in Brabourne in 2009.

626/9 d This is the first instance of West Indies scoring 500+ in a Test innings since scoring 507 against New Zealand in Dunedin in December 2013, following on. The last time they scored 500+ in their first innings was when they made 648/9 d against Bangladesh in Khulna in November 2012; the last time they managed 500+ in a home Test was in July 2012 when they hit 522 against New Zealand, also in North Sound.

This is also the highest ever total for West Indies against Sri Lanka surpassing 589/9 d in Galle in 2010 - the only other instance of them scoring 500+ against the island nation.

318 West Indies' lead of 318 runs is the 24th instance of them having a 300+ first innings-lead and the first such instance since 2019. This is the first such instance against Sri Lanka and the last time West Indies did so against an opponent other than Zimbabwe or Bangladesh was in 2005, against South Africa in Georgetown.
