Exciting fast bowler Newman Nyamhuri and batter Milton Shumba have been included in the 15-man Zimbabwe squad for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. The selectors have largely struck with the same squad that had a dream run in the T20 World Cup earlier this year where they reached the Super Eights.
The 20-year-old Nyamhuri, who made his ODI and Test debut in December 2024, has been impressive so far against Bangladesh in the one-off Test match and in the opening ODI where he made contributions with both bat and ball. While he is yet to make his debut in the T20 format, Shumba's last T20I appearance was in the T20 World Cup in 2022.
Zimbabwe T20I Squad: Sikandar Raza (C), Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl, Ben Curran, Brad Evans, Clive Madande, Tinotenda Maposa, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Tashinga Musekiwa, Blessing Muzarabani, Dion Myers, Richard Ngarava, Newman Nyamhuri, Milton Shumba.
Veteran Sikandar Raza continues to lead the team and Brendan Taylor has been left out. Ben Curran, who had replaced Taylor during the T20 World Cup due to an injury, has retained his spot. Graeme Cremer was not considered for selection due to a left-arm fracture.
The three games will be played on July 15, 17 and 19 at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
"The T20 World Cup showed what this group is capable of, so continuity was an important consideration for us," Convener of Selectors David Mutendera said.
"We wanted to keep together the core of a squad that reached the Super Eight while also creating room for players who have earned their opportunities. This series gives the team another opportunity to keep growing as we continue building towards the major international tournaments ahead."
