PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Going to be England vs Australia in the big final at Lord's. What an occasion it promises to be. South Africa, meanwhile, fail to make it four consecutive finals in four straight years. They were always searching for that perfect game right through the tournament but it never really came about, and certainly not today, falling well short of England's target of 170. Tough one to take for Laura Wolvaardt and team. So that's all we have from this one. It's a goodbye from Sagar Chawla on behalf of Siva and Raju Peethala. See you Sunday!
Nat Sciver-Brunt 2/2: [You got the wicket of the captain, Charlotte Edwards ran onto the field. Was there a plan behind that?] Yeah, to get three overs from the same bowler was pretty tough in T20. Linsey's done a brilliant job for us in the powerplay, but I suppose tactically for us to be able to have four overs of Sophie in the middle, that has been a huge benefit for our team. But obviously Linsey taking that wicket of Wolvaardt in the powerplay was so key. We had the plan set out right, and yeah, we stuck to our guns really. When she'd hit one over the top the delivery before, Linsey and I looked at each other and thought, let's go again. Yeah. The crowd, just incredible. [Did you have a chance to kind of take it (crowd support) all in?] Yeah, very tuneful. Yeah, no, the crowd has been so good throughout this tournament. I managed to take it in a little bit, walking out to bat and walking off and a few of the wickets as well. Yeah, it's just infectious playing with this team and in front of the home crowd has been so special. So yeah, I cannot wait to do it again at Lord's. [How's the calf?] Calf's good. [How big of an occasion is the final going to be?] Massive. Yeah, what an occasion it'll be. I guess, you know, finding out there's a home World Cup, it was a dream to be in that final, and what an opposition to be facing. Yeah, obviously a really, really talented side that have had a huge success. But yeah, we'll see what happens down at Lord's. [Is it coming home?] Hopefully.
Nat Sciver-Brunt | England captain: What a special place to play cricket. We've really loved playing here over the years, obviously 17 years ago as well. But yeah, what a great ground to, I suppose, show the crowd how much we enjoy playing for England, and yeah, trying to inspire as many people as we can. [How much belief can you tell us that you have as a unit at the moment, that you can bounce back from difficult situations?] Yeah, I guess we've got full confidence in our batting line-up from top to bottom. So, I suppose from that point of view, there was never any worry about, you know, other people coming in. But Heather and I knew that we had a really important job to do to get our team back on track. And yeah, I suppose the composure that we showed was really important. You know, we could have tried to go harder earlier, and maybe it didn't work out the way it did. So, yeah, I think we were really smart and, yeah, took the game on in a slightly different way to, I suppose, a typical T20 innings. [Did you feel short at the halfway stage?] No, I think we had a good score. We could tell that there were some variable bounce, and keeping the stumps into play was going to be so important, maybe using some cutters and cross-seamers as a team bowling group. And yeah, I thought that Kemp especially did so well with her off-pace deliveries and mixing it up, just made it so difficult for the batters.
Wolvaardt 2/2: [How will you reflect on what you put and what you brought to the table?] Yeah, decent campaign for us. I think happy to have made it out of this group stages. I think upon reflection, our batting never really fired throughout the competition. We had some glimpses here or there, some special innings throughout the tournament. But I think as a whole, we just weren't quite clicking. So yeah, and I think that showed again a bit today. But yeah, I think our bowling and outfielding was pretty good throughout. So I think we'll have a look at what we've done wrong and hopefully be better next time. [Do you see that the players have learned enough lessons here to be able to take forward?] I hope so. Yeah, I think we've got an exciting mix at the moment. We've got some really senior players who have played a lot of games, a lot of experience, but some exciting youngsters coming through as well. Hopefully we learn from this. I think the likes of Derckson was pretty good with the bat throughout. So yeah, hopefully players like that can be even better in the next edition.
Laura Wolvaardt | SA captain: [Just talk us through the emotions?] Yeah, very disappointed, but just not meant to be for us today. I think we were outplayed today by a really good England side. And yeah, I think they played really well. [What was different this evening?] Not too sure. I think the main difference between our innings and theirs is just they had so many more partnerships. Obviously, we started really well with the ball and then they had that really big partnership. And I think we just didn't have any partnerships to sort of speak of and didn't really have any batters that really got going. So frustrating to lose as well on a big stage. But yeah, we'll go back to the drawing board. [What did you feel was chaseable at the halfway stage?] Yeah, I thought it was a pretty decent pitch, coming on quite nicely. I thought 170 was about par. Pretty happy with that. Yeah, I thought, especially with the outfield as well, it's lightning. I thought it was going to be tough to defend. But yeah, I think they bowled pretty well. Clearly had different plans for us. And yeah, we weren't able to step up. [How difficult is it playing against a team that have so much home support as well at a ground like this?] Yeah, I think it does play a role. But also cool to see so many fans here tonight. I think it just adds sort of to the vibe and the energy. A couple of South Africans as well that I saw. So yeah, that was nice.

Nat Sciver-Brunt | Player of the Match: [What were your feelings coming into this match?] Yeah, I guess, obviously nervous. Probably the occasion gets quite big as well. And so that increased the nerves as well. And I've missed a few games as well. So, yeah, I guess there was a lot of emotion pre-game. But yeah, I suppose as soon as the warm-up started, I managed to switch back on to game time. And yeah, just enjoyed myself out there. [How did you go about rebuilding that in England innings?] Yeah, I guess Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp are obviously world-class opening bowlers that we knew could do the damage. So I suppose Heather and I wanted to nullify the threat and make sure that we were then in and able to capitalise on the other bowlers. And yeah, I suppose with our experience, we put our heads together and got the job done. [How did you find the conditions?] Yeah, a little bit variable bounce. So I guess we had to be really strong on the stumps and I guess, be very clear on where you wanted to score. I suppose when you're in for a period of time, it does get a little bit easier and I guess it was difficult for new batters coming in. So the partnership was obviously crucial.
21:44 Local Time, 20:44 GMT, 02:14 IST: What a performance after slipping to 23/3 in the first innings! The nerves must have been jangling in the dressing room and the memories of losing to South Africa in the semis in 2023 and 2025 must've come flooding back. But they didn't have anything to worry about with their captain out there in the middle. Nat-Sciver Brunt, who injured her calf in the Group Stages and was in a race against time to be fit for this one, played an absolute blinder to lead the rescue act, smashing 75 off just 47. Giving her company was Heather Knight and the two of them put on a partnership to remember. On a pitch that was dry, had some variable bounce and wasn't a typical Oval wicket, the duo took England to 169, and South Africa couldn't challenge them in response. They fell behind the rate early, lost wickets and never got back in track. Freya Kemp was particularly good with the ball for the hosts, befuddling the Proteas with her variations. Let's hear from the presentations...

Linsey Smith to Shabnim Ismail, 1 run, home is where the heart is, and home is where the fire burns brightest for Nat Sciver-Brunt and England. Never before have they failed to win a home World Cup, and they're now just one step away. Plenty of hugs in the dugout as they wrap up a comprehensive win to book their place in the final. Smith closes it off as she pushes it flat on leg stump and keeps Ismail to just a single through square leg

Linsey Smith to Nadine de Klerk, 1 run, lofted down the ground, falls short of long-off. Smith not happy that the fielder didn't go for the catch

Linsey Smith to Nadine de Klerk, 1 run, goes for the slog-sweep, miscues it in the air and it falls short of deep midwicket
19.1
Linsey Smith to Nadine de Klerk, 2 runs, cramped for room as this slides in with the arm on leg stump. Somehow she still has managed to cut it through the gap at point. Fielder chases it down and they're back for two

Lauren Bell to Ayabonga Khaka, out Bowled!! Big swing, misses and loses her stumps! Crowd is having a party in the stands as England get another. One more dipping slower ball from Bell, and Khaka connects thin air while looking to slog. Bell finishes with 2/28. Ayabonga Khaka b Lauren Bell 4(3) [4s-1]

Lauren Bell to Ayabonga Khaka, no run, slower one floated up at the stumps, she looks to whip it away and gets a thick inside edge onto pad
