PLAYER OF THE MATCH
The Unicorns have not only picked up two crucial points, but they've picked up so much on the NRR that they are sitting first on the table. And they have an extra game in hand than the Orcas and the Super Kings who are also on 6 points. The tournament now heads to the Knight Riders Cricket Field, Pomona for the next set of matches. We will be back after a 2-day break but there's a lot going around in the cricketing circles for you to catch up. Do soak it all up. See you soon!

Matt Short: (What pleases you the most when you reflect?) Ooh, again with the ball, I think we were slightly composed. They obviously got off to a bit of a flyer, and again, we know some of their guys are pretty power hitters. So, yeah, we knew that, that could happen, and we stayed in the game, and try and take wickets. 190 was a bit of a stretch, I thought. They batted really well. But, yeah, obviously the youngster you spoke to (Pretorius) all class there, and then obviously Finn Allen, it was nice for him to spend some time in the middle. Yeah, they set the platform really nicely for us. (What goes through your mind when you were watching the two of them go together?) Keep going (smiles). Obviously what the crowd want to see. Look, when they get going, it's obviously fireworks, and they hit the ball hard as anyone. So, yeah, it's good to watch. (A word on the crowd) Yeah, I mean, as I've said, the last few games, we were lucky enough to get a taste of it last year, but I think, this year's done a few better. So, yeah, we love coming here and having a home base at the Colosseum. And, yeah, we appreciate all the fans for coming out. Hopefully we can see you in a week or so in the finals.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius | PoTM: (You were admiring your shots. Which one stands out to you?) Probably the one taking me to 50. I wanted to get the record after the first over, so, yeah, I'm glad I could hit that last one for six. (When did you know that the record was 16 balls? Was it today or before?) Before. I just, I like looking. I'm a bit of a badger, so I like looking at the stuff and seeing the stuff. (Tell me about the consistency, because you play one way, but to be consistent doing it. What do you put that down to?) I just think it all comes down from the management backing you, always speaking positive and encouraging you to have a positive mindset out there. And then just on wickets like these, being a bit two-paced, just having clarity and backing your options and committing to it 100%. And yeah, that's my mindset going into every game. So yeah, it's been working so far, so hopefully it carries on working towards the back end. (For younger players coming up, who are significantly younger than others, what would be the secret for that fearlessness in league cricket?) I think it can go both ways, like recklessness. I fell into that trap sliding when I played a couple of T20 internationals, playing with too much freedom and being fearless. But now it's just backing your options and staying within your game plan, reading conditions and trying to assess which I feel is important as an opening batter. So yeah, that's just what I'm doing, committing to what I feel the conditions are going to give me. (You or Finn Allen, bigger six?). Probably Finn (smiles).
Steve Smith | WAF captain: Definitely got a little bit wetter tonight than it has over the last couple and might have skidded onto the bat a little bit nicer. But, it kind of takes nothing away from the hitting there. (Lhuan-dre) Pretorius and (Finn) Allen, that was world-class and pretty tough to stop when you get those two going like that. (Did you feel enough at halfway mark?) Yeah, we thought that was a decent total on that wicket in that first innings. So, obviously disappointed the way we started with the ball, the way they got off to a flying start and took the game away from us. But, I thought we batted reasonably well. What are we? Two, three games, one win here. So it would have been nice to get two. But, yeah. No, it's been nice to play out here in front of some fans. It's been good fun. Onto the next leg.
22:00 Local Time, 05:00 GMT, 10:30 IST: This is a great, NRR-boosting win for the Unicorns. They fed on some absolutely poor bowling from the Freedom and have made a mockery of the target. This pitch was rated as slow in the innings break and instead of bowling hard lengths or using more cutters, slot balls were dished out ball after ball and the result was a century opening stand inside the powerplay. Finn Allen just missed his fifty but Lhuan-dre Pretorius did get his fifty off just 16 balls. The duo literally killed the game in the powerplay. Captain Matt Short held one end, while his partner Aaron Hardie went for the shots. Eventually they closed the game out with as many as 29 balls left. The Freedom were poor with their catching as well, dropping almost 5 catches if you count a tough chance in the second over at the fence.
