Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh, One-off Test, Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe, 2026 - CommentaryZIM vs BAN, One-off Test, Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe, 2026 - Commentary
Richard Ngarava collects the trophy before the rest of the Zimbabwe players join him. They gather for the customary team photograph, raising their hands in celebration. Newman Nyamhuri has a big smile on his face and is entrusted with the trophy. That's all from the one-off Test. The focus now shifts to the three-match ODI series, which gets underway on July 6 (Monday). Bangladesh are a much stronger white-ball side, so it won't be as straightforward for Zimbabwe. Until then, it's goodbye from us.
Richard Ngarava | Zimbabwe captain: (On becoming the third Zimbabwean captain to win his first Test match as captain) Well, it's a nice feeling to be making history. This is two in a row series, and it's always a nice feeling and hopefully we can continue with that. (On having a bigger pool to pick players from) It was quite important because from before, we used to look at like 25 players, 30, and having 42 players now, that's a bigger pool, and we can sort of like get to share the workloads with the bowlers more. We get to pick the best batters in the country and get a better performance. Brian Bennett has been one of the best batters in our team, and everyone else, they had to chip in with some runs, and that makes a team. Everyone has to contribute something. And, that's why you see this W result. Newman is going to be something big in the future for Zimbabwe. I'm really proud of him, how quickly he's learning. (On looking forward to the ODIs) There's going to be a couple of days of rest, but I'm looking forward to the ODIs and take it day by day and see how it goes.
Innocent Kaia | Player of the match: (On his performance) To be honest, first things first, I just want to thank God to be here and giving me this opportunity to represent my country again. Scoring your maiden Test century at home, it always feels so good and can't believe it, still sinking in but it's a good feeling. (On his preparation and mindset) Just quite simple, putting in the hard work and just thinking about my game, eating right and staying fit. (On performing in these conditions) It was a tough wicket to play on. Credit to Bangladesh bowlers, I think they bowled well. But, it was my game, I just want to thank God that I managed to put runs for the team. (Words for those that have helped him on his journey back into the side) Thy're always close to my heart and close to myself. I always keep them and I love them. (What to expect in the coming series?) I can only control my working processes, outcome I don't know but I promise good runs.
Najmul Hossain Shanto | Bangladesh captain:(On what cost the Test) I think batting cost us the match, but again, I think the whole batting and bowling, we didn't do well, especially in both the first innings. We have played some good cricket over the last few days, but the conditions were different. We prepared ourselves over the few days, but the conditions are different. We prepared, but we didn't execute our plans. (Regarding the different conditions here) Yes, there will always be a challenge in these conditions. We have to adapt to those conditions and regarding the experience we had in the batting order, we just didn't execute our plan. (On missing some of their frontline pacers) I think it is part of the game, but I'm really happy with how the fast bowlers bowled. But again, regarding our batting, we didn't play proper cricketing shots. Our batting - we didn't play proper cricketing shots. We didn't execute our plan, and that cost us the match. (On the upcoming white-ball series) If you look at the last four or five series, we have played brilliant white-ball cricket and have been winning. So the boys are pretty confident, and as I said, the conditions are different, and the boys arrived a bit earlier, so they have had the opportunity to prepare themselves.
This is the first time Zimbabwe have won consecutive Tests in more than 25 years. In their previous Test (October 2025), they beat Afghanistan by an innings and 73 runs, and have now backed it up with a victory over Bangladesh to register successive Test wins. The last time they achieved this feat was back in April 2001, when they coincidentally whitewashed Bangladesh in a two-match series. Overall, this is only the third time Zimbabwe have won back-to-back Tests, having also defeated India and Pakistan in successive matches in 1998.
13:27 Local Time, 11:27 GMT, 16:57 IST: They have done it! Zimbabwe have hammered Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs. The visitors were simply no match for them as Zimbabwe dominated the Test from the outset. It all began with Bangladesh losing eight wickets for just 27 runs to be bowled out for 140 on Day 1. In reply, Innocent Kaia smashed a superb 140, while Brian Bennett, Craig Ervine and Wessly Madhevere all made valuable fifties to power Zimbabwe to 410, giving them a massive lead of 270. Bangladesh needed a big response in their second innings, but none of their batters showed the resilience and they were bowled out for 185. Zimbabwe's pace quartet of Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans and Newman Nyamhuri hunted in a pack, with none of them going wicketless in either innings. Don't go anywhere, we will be back shortly with the post-match presentation ceremony.
