PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's all from this contest, you can switch tabs and follow our coverage of the clash between San Francisco Unicorns and Washington Freedom. See you!
Marcus Stoinis: (What were you feeling when it was 32 for 4?) No, I wasn't comfortable. I was just thinking about at least getting the game a bit deeper and allow our batters, whoever we had left, and Dasun would end up putting his hand up, and just trying to get the game to a situation where we can take the game on again. But it was hard. And Dasun turned the game for us, and obviously was man of the match and the most important player. (What about Ali Sheikh?) Really talented cricketer. He adapted really well. We were talking about that, the fact that we've got senior players all around him, but our youngster stepped up and adjusted the conditions and played really nicely, took on the bowlers when he had his match-up, and then played the rest in what he saw. And his bowling's really handy, his fielding's great, so he's a real talent. (How big was that win?) That is nice. I think I also heard that if we lost, we could go to the bottom of the table. So you never get too happy and you never get too down on yourself. It's definitely nice to have that and head off to LA and tackle that leg. (Harmeet Singh was exceptional today?) Exceptional today. I think when he's bowling well, it allows, it makes my job a lot easier, allows us to rotate our bowlers a lot more. And to be fair, the wickets were maybe, at night, a little bit harder to bowl spin, but he really got it right today and it allowed a lot of flexibility with him and Ali, and then to rotate our quicks. (Are you enjoying that role opening the bowling?) Look, I'm happy to do it. I usually just bowl when, apart from that first over, I usually just bowl when I think no one wants to bowl. So that's my theory as the skipper, take some responsibility there, and then try and put the boys in as many good positions so they can execute their skills as possible.
Dasun Shanaka | Most valuable player: (How did you score so quickly right from the start?) See, from the situation we were in, so I had to play such a crucial inning. So, from the ball one, my intent was there. So, really happy about my performance. (What kind of a target were you hoping for when you walked to the crease?) Yeah, initially what I thought is to get around 120, 130. But with the momentum that I got, so I was able to capitalize from that. So, really happy. And sometimes you need to come out from that zone to do something like that. I didn't think about the situation too much, which will allow me to score runs. But confidence was there, it's about myself not getting big runs in the previous games. So, really happy to contribute. (What about your team's bowling effort?) Yeah, absolutely, from the captain's point of view, he rotated the bowlers really well in this game. So, well done to him. And the bowlers doing the job for him, which is really good. Yeah, looking forward for the next phase of the tournament in LA. So I hope to contribute with the bat and ball.
Jason Holder: (What do you think is the biggest issue in your batting group?) Yeah, the nature of this wicket, is quite slow, but we haven't adjusted. I think when you look at this surface, it's been quite hard to start on. But it's still a wicket where you still got to try to put pressure on the bowlers. You know, having said that, when you look at our batting bowling, probably not as good as we would want it. But I still think we should be getting runs. (You had them 72 for six and they got to 154?) Yeah, I think in hindsight, you can look back, you can say a few things. If you start, the game, asking your bowlers to limit a team for 150, you'll take it. But having said that, I just think our batters just need to apply themselves a little bit more, string a few more partnerships up front, be a little bit more responsible and take the game as deep as possible. As we've seen, it's very difficult to get in and start. (What are you looking forward to in your next leg?) Yeah, looking forward to what LA brings. We're not sure what the surface will bring. We're not sure what the conditions may bring, but it's a new atmosphere for everyone. It's obviously a home game, our home leg for us, so we're looking to make the most of that, and hopefully our fans can come and support us.
18:16 Local Time, 01:16 GMT, 06:46 IST: Seattle Orcas climb to the top of the points table with a comfortable 20-run victory. Their innings looked in danger after a flurry of wickets earlier in the day, but Ali Sheikh's useful knock helped stabilize things before Dasun Shanaka completely changed the momentum. The Sri Lankan all-rounder unleashed a breathtaking assault, hammering 58 off just 23 balls to propel the Orcas to a competitive total. In response, LAKR's openers laid a solid foundation. However, once the opening partnership was broken, the innings unraveled quickly as wickets tumbled in quick succession. Colin Munro got himself set but couldn't convert his start into a substantial score, while the rest of the batting order failed to build meaningful partnerships. Jason Holder and Matthew Tromp struck a few late boundaries to reduce the margin, but the target had already slipped beyond reach. Marcus Stoinis starred with the ball, finishing as the standout performer with three wickets, while the rest of the Seattle attack chipped in with timely breakthroughs to ensure a well-rounded bowling display. It was a complete team effort that sealed an impressive win and took the Seattle Orcas to the top of the table.
