PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's all from this game. However, another game is coming up soon between MI New York and Los Angeles Knight Riders. Switch tabs to catch all the action. Goodbye..
Steve Smith | WAF captain: [On the nature of the pitch and the bowling effort] Yeah, it was tricky. A little bit up and down and there was a bit of seam movement as well, so it wasn't the easiest. I thought our bowlers did a wonderful job early on, Jack in particular. He hit really great lengths, continued taking wickets throughout the innings and restricted them to what I thought was a good score for us to chase. It was nice to get the job done. [On his innings and the change in the batting order] Yeah, we had a little tactical change, with me coming down the order. We tried to get a few guys to go really hard early on and for me to come in and anchor the innings through the middle, given the way the wicket was playing. It worked out well in the end, and it was a nice result."
Jack Edwards | MVP: [What pleased him the most] Yeah, I was a bit disappointed with the way I bowled the other day, and the coaches just wanted me to really simplify things and try to hit the right length. I felt really good today with my stock ball and managed to find the edge a few times, so I was very happy.
Matt Short | SFU captain: "[On why the team managed only 126] I think it was a mixture of really good bowling from Washington and us losing wickets in clumps. Obviously, credit to Washington, they bowled really well. I think they used the conditions better than we did, and that's probably what it came down to. [On the conditions and the challenges they posed] I think it was just the inconsistency of the bounce. If it's staying lower and more consistent, it's a bit easier. But if it's bouncing a little bit as well on top of that, it can be a little bit tougher to bat. The team that adapts quicker has won the game, I think. [On where the team stands at this stage of the season] Yeah, absolutely. I think the last time we had a win, we jumped from fifth to first. That's pretty much how close it is. Every win is crucial. Even hanging in the game there until the 18th over is crucial as well."
17:55 Local Time, 00:55 GMT, 06:25 IST: It was a well-constructed chase from Washington Freedom on a pitch that offered movement and variable bounce for the pacers. Xavier Bartlett struck in the opening over to remove Mitchell Owen, while the promotion of Jack Edwards didn't pay off. When Andries Gous became the third wicket to fall inside the powerplay, Freedom were in early trouble. Steven Smith then joined hands with Mark Chapman to rebuild the innings, the pair adding a crucial 50-plus stand for the fourth wicket. Chapman played the aggressor's role before falling six short of a half-century, while Smith took charge thereafter, bringing up his first fifty of the season. He fell with just four runs left to get, by which point the job was virtually done, as Washington completed the chase with 11 balls to spare. It's now back-to-back wins for Washington Freedom, a result that takes them to the top of the table for the time being. Presentations coming up..

Brody Couch to Steven Smith, out Caught by Finn Allen!! Smith won't be there to take Washington over the line. He wanted to finish it off in style and perishes in the process. Full pitcher around off, Smith saw mid-off inside the ring and tried to go over the infield. He does not middle it and Allen backtracks a bit and takes a good catch. Brody Couch to Steven Smith, SIX, fifty for Smith. He did not open the batting, came in at number 4, struggled for most parts but the most important thing - he's still out there. His team mates applaud the knock and Smith acknowledges with a bat raise. Full and in the slot, Smith presents the full face of the bat and lofts through the line. That came off the sweet spot and the ball sailed over long-on
Brody Couch [3.0-0-10-1] is back into the attack
