PLAYER OF THE MATCH
The final game in this group now holds massive significance. If New Zealand beat England, they will qualify for the semis. If not, the West Indies will go through. It's all to play for at The Oval and the toss is moments away. Do tune into our coverage there. That's all from this one. Goodbye!
Gaby Lewis | Ireland captain: [On becoming history makers by securing Ireland’s first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup victory] I’m absolutely delighted. Just so proud of the girls. It’s been a tough tournament, you know, some close losses and also some heavy losses, which is hard. But I think, you know, a tournament like this, you just have to dust them off and move on. I think the girls have done that brilliantly. We keep bouncing back. We’ve such a young bowling attack. And yeah, just really, really proud of the girls today. [On the message to the team at the halfway stage after restricting West Indies to 129 and chasing a similar target to the one against New Zealand] Yeah, I think we knew, like, it was reachable, I think, with the batting order that we have. We’ve batters, and we’ve got some world-class players. So definitely confident going into that innings. I think we bowled really well towards the death. We really restricted them with players that we were bowling at, limiting the boundaries was massive. And yeah, I think, just getting ourselves in and reading it and just playing positive cricket. And I think the girls did that today. [On what has been key to maintaining belief throughout a difficult tournament] Yeah, I think just look back at what we’ve done. I think I know we had some defeats, but there’s actually was really positive periods and really positive spells or knocks. And just held on to those. I think it’s easy to get down and get too high. But yeah, we really just kept around each other as a group. We’re such a close group, which really helps as well. Not only on the pitch, but we’re picking each other up off the pitch. And yeah, just so, so happy with today.
Matthews 2/2: [On what the team needs to do if they qualify for the semi-finals] I mean, if we do get to the semis from here, it’s going to be a case where I feel like it’s meant to be for sure. We haven’t been at our best at all this tournament. And if we do reach the semifinals, I certainly feel like we need to show up and turn up. And I think the pain we feel right now and probably the anxiety feel right now, we’re going to have to try to channel that if we do get through and remember that we don’t want to feel this way again. [On what Ireland did well to make the match so difficult] Yeah, I think they kept the stump really well. They bowled pretty slow as well, which was quite difficult on that wicket. And then with the bat, obviously, Orla just kind of controlled the game, played a very tempered innings, and took it really deep. And I think that was the difference. We probably had no one in our innings that went really deep, whereas with her, she played a great innings to control the game. [On Henry’s fitness after leaving the field during Ireland’s innings] Hopefully she’ll be good for the semis. She’s obviously out managing her injuries all the time. And yeah, I guess she’s a fighter to be out here playing with the injury that she does have. But yeah, hopefully we can get her back up and running for the semis again for the full match.
Hayley Matthews | WI captain: [On where the match went wrong and the anxious wait to find out whether West Indies will qualify for the semi-finals] Yeah, I feel really bad. We probably had a decent powerplay, but we weren’t able to keep runs flowing throughout the innings. I feel that we were probably a bit timid and not getting on top of the bowlers early in the over, and probably tried to play the catch-up game a bit late. And yeah, then with the ball, I think the execution was probably where we went wrong for sure. It was definitely a wicket where it was sitting up quite a bit, and we got hit off the back foot quite a lot. So yeah, I think just probably not the best execution from us on a whole, bat or with the ball. And then, yeah, a few mistakes in the field as well. [On why the batting unit has struggled to fire throughout the tournament] Still figuring it out, I guess. We’ve not been able to, I guess, capitalize on the powerplays yet. But, some of that is due to me as well, and probably not being in the best of form at the moment. And yeah, I guess with Deandra probably not being in best shape either, we’re two very crucial and integral parts of our batting order that we needed to be firing to do well. So I certainly feel like we’ve probably let the team down just a bit. But yeah, at the same time, fingers got to be crossed for what’s coming up. And if we do get to the semis, hold our heads up and look forward to the next one.

Orla Prendergast | Player of the Match: [On the emotions after securing the team’s first win of the tournament] It just means so much. We’ve had the belief all throughout this tournament and unfortunately it hadn’t come together just yet. But the belief we all had was there constantly. So just so much relief to finally have that win and so much happiness. [On the lessons learned from the narrow defeat to New Zealand and how they approached this chase] Yeah, just a different tempo in the chase, I think. But I think they’re pretty different games, to be honest, and different conditions. Just glad today we came off. [On the crucial second-wicket partnership with Amy Hunter and their conversations in the middle] Me and Amy, you don’t talk about a whole lot out there, to be honest, when we’re batting. Just keeping the partnership going. When you’re the runner, it wasn’t too much of an issue, so just staying there together, we knew we could put us in a good position. [On the team’s bowling and fielding performance] Yeah, an entire performance. I think it was probably our best fielding performance to date, which is so pleasing. And yeah, I think that’s the great thing about this side, is everyone stands up on different days, and today was the definition of that day. [On the support from the travelling fans and those watching back home] Just a massive thank you. We feel their support constantly, those who are here and those who aren’t. They make such a difference, they’re really our 12th player.
Amy Hunter: [what are your emotions right now?] Yeah, I'm just so excited, to be honest. I think it's been in the works for a while, and we just haven't quite got over the line, but yeah, to get over the line, it's unbelievable feeling. [How much did you enjoy that partnership with Orla] Yeah, it was unbelievable out there. To be honest, I was just trying to get everyone to strike the whole time, and yeah, she was absolutely outrageous out there. [What were the nerves like when she was dismissed, though?] Obviously a little bit nervous, but just desperate to get across the line, but I thought the Orla, it was fab out there. [What was it like being part of this group and coming through the lows, which then make these highs all the better?] Yeah, there's definitely been a few lows along the way, but I think we've bounced back really well, and as a group, been really resilient. So I think that's something that we can take going forward. [What will the celebrations be like?] Yeah, hopefully good. [What about your support that has stuck with you throughout this tournament, and many other tournaments?] Yeah, credit to the supporters, like, they've been absolutely unbelievable, obviously just across the water, and to the amount they've come over, and yeah, as a team, we're just so proud, and thankfully we got the win for them today. [What did you talk about at the innings break, knowing the target that you had to chase down?] Just about partnerships. We talked about that throughout the competition, and just happy to do that out there today. [A word for your teammates] I think Gaby's been unbelievable throughout the competition. She's held the bowling together at times. So yeah, I think credit to her, she's been absolutely unbelievable. You can see the team behind us now, beaming smiles everywhere and on your faces.
17:40 local, 16:40 GMT, 22:10 IST: What a historic win for Ireland! It's their first-ever victory in the history of the Women's T20 World Cup, and they are absolutely ecstatic. They enjoyed the perfect day out in Bristol today - winning the toss, opting to bowl, restricting the power-packed West Indies batting line-up to a below-par total, and then chasing it down with 11 balls to spare. Skipper Gaby Lewis departed early, but that hardly unsettled Orla Prendergast, who was a delight to watch. She stitched together a crucial 62-run partnership with Amy Hunter for the second wicket before shifting gears, finding the boundary regularly and taking Ireland within touching distance of victory. Although they lost a couple of wickets with the target well within reach, the result never really looked in doubt. This victory also breathes new life into New Zealand's campaign. If they can beat England in their final group game, they will secure a place in the semifinals. Stick around for the post-match reactions...
