PLAYER OF THE MATCH
PLAYER OF THE SERIES
New Zealand started off the series on a bright note with an impressive victory but they lost their way after that. It can be said that Bangladesh thoroughly outplayed them in the next two games and ruled the roost at home. The Bangladeshi players came good in all aspects of the game when it mattered the most and that led them to seal the series. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. Until next time, goodbye and cheers!
Here's the glory moment! Mehidy Hasan has been presented the trophy and he is all smiles. He poses for photographs with his teammates.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz: It was an excellent match, it wasn't easy, the boys bowled really well, Mustafizur also. Shanto and Litton's partnership was excellent, they took responsibility. They are senior guys and they played really well. (On whether he thought 265 was a winning total on this surface) We know the conditions, there was little spin on offer and some uneven bounce for the pacers. We took early wickets and that helped us. The boys knew the conditions and bowled well. We fielded really well and took a couple of really good catches, those two catches were very important.
Nahid Rana | Player of the Series (Translated from Bangla): I'm feeling really good, I adapted today, and coming here and adapting has benefited me, so I feel good. Actually, at that time, only one thing was going through my mind when I was bowling - the captain was saying one thing, to try short balls against those who like to play shots. I just tried that. I tried to follow one plan and bowl according to the team’s plan. But I always think to myself whether I am performing effectively for my team - that’s something I keep in my mind. (On whether his role changes when a partnership builds) No, basically I don’t think differently. I try to understand the conditions and bowl according to that. That is my main focus. I don't think much, I just try to bowl according to the wicket and the conditions.
Najmul Hossain Shanto | Player of the Match: (On him cramping up at the end while batting) Yes, it's pretty hot, but no excuses. I feel much better now. I think they started brilliantly, they bowled in brilliant areas but I always try to stay in the present and not looking back at what happened. So I just try to execute my plan and stay in the present and play as I can. The way Litton played today was really outstanding. He held one side and I tried to score some runs, that was the plan. It was not an easy wicket, but we tried to just make a big partnership for the team.
Tom Latham: (On what was going on in his mind when the last partnership was on) Yeah, there was some clean striking there from Foxy. You know, see a little bit too late from our point of view. If we had a few more wickets in the tank then, you know, things might have been different. But, unfortunately today, couldn't quite put the perfect performance together, and full credit to Bangladesh. (On their top-order not scoring enough runs) I think probably similar to the second game. As a batting unit, we probably weren't able to build enough partnerships at the top. And we sort of speak about it, having guys set towards the last 10 overs and, obviously, losing wickets, you know, throughout that whole sort of top 20-25 overs, sort of puts you on the back foot. And, as I said, we just weren't able to build those partnerships today. (On whether the partnership between Litton and Shanto hurt them) You're right. And I think we saw that, when we took a few wickets towards the back end, full credit to the partnership that Litton and Shanto put on. I thought they played superbly well. I think our powerplay game was fantastic. I think we managed to find a great length, and the boys did a great job. But, obviously trying to break that partnership was the key, and unfortunately, we couldn't do that. Going into the halfway mark, we were reasonably happy with 260. But, again, when you're unable to put partnerships together, it makes things difficult.
19:23 Local Time, 13:23 GMT, 18:53 IST: A comprehensive victory for Bangladesh to close the series out. They were in some trouble when they lost their top-order cheaply but the 160-run stand between Shanto and Litton enabled them to script a serious fightback. Shanto's terrific century under pressure was the highlight for them. Chasing 266 on a slightly two-paced surface was always going to be a tough ask for New Zealand and they faltered. Apart from Kelly's fifty at the top and Foxcroft's brilliant ball-striking at the fag end, their batters left a lot to be desired. The Bangladeshi bowlers were on the money and kept striking at regular intervals to push the visitors further on the back foot. Mustafizur stole the limelight with a 5-fer - his cutters and slower bouncers worked to a nicety. Nahid Rana was also highly impressive with his incisive bowling. Foxcroft hit some lusty blows at the end but the game was almost done by then. He eventually holed out courtesy a brilliant catch from Saif Hassan in the deep. Stick around for the presentations...
